Maybe it's based on the age when you were touched by the light. I'm sure the Traveler didn't just appear and pick only people between 20 and 30 or 50 and 60. I would presume that Guardians were chosen based on their potential.

I'm not saying that the age relates to their potential. I'm just saying that this theory could explain why there is an age difference between Saladin and Efrideet when they're both 400+ years old.

Ah, okay. I misread your comment. Okay, I suppose that could be a thing, but that really narrows down the potential Guardain count to numbers that seem lower than the forces we have now.
