Nerfing ammo was one of their worst decisions ever. Not only is it bullshit in PvE, anyone who played PvP and vanilla knows that if anything the reliance on special weapons in PvP increased after the nerf. Now with Supremacy, all the limited ammo does is create completely unbalanced matches if one team can get to the crates. It's a bad joke and needs fixed.

I know we talked about it a lot in the podcast when I was on, and it's a topic I will keep bringing up along with the state of shotguns in PvE (both topics are linked). The special ammo nerf not only made us feel less powerful in PvE, it also drove shotguns even further into the ground as a special weapon choice as a side effect, solidifying the sniper as the only viable option in endgame activities.

  • To be fair, that's also because for some reason Bungie thought that every enemy, and especially bosses -- needed insanely overpowered melee. Seriously, why does almost every boss have a near-OHK, aoe melee?

  • Yeah. Those mechanics along with the greatly reduced range and damage drop off of shotguns in the December patch means they rarely are useful at all in PvE. Even if you do get close enough to get a shot in, shotguns don't do enough damage to warrant the risk.

  • In PvE, i feel like the average Shotgun capacity should be 24, the same for sniper rifles. Fusion rifles should be slightly higher to help balance them out, perhaps 30 on average? Low RoF specials such as Black spindle should have that amount, with the higher RoF archetypes going about 40% larger to compensate for their larger fire rate. Rocket launchers should always have five or six rounds maximum as their base as well, with machine guns gaining a slight buff of 25% to their ammo as well. Shotguns should get their damage back from HoW back, with their mobiltiy nerf and range introduced back again. That would allow them to be useful in missions again. In the same way, swords should be buffed with their basic attacks so that they can reliably kill trash mobs with Arc Edge/Dark drinker's specials increased slightly in damage (Raze lighter no, for obvious reasons). Finally, Young Wolf's howl needs a buff desperately. Every other exotic sword outclasses it, so there is no reason to use it other than for fun. I feel like it's ammo pool should be buffed up to the other sword's count, with it having a slightly weaker version of the axe's ability and only consuming five ammo. Snipers should have flinch reduced in PvE, along with the 8% damage nerf removed from 1KYS's archetype. The only place it made a difference was King's fall anyway and the new light cap should allow us to kill the knights with one headshot again anyway. Fusion rifles should gain a damage buff in PvE to compensate for the lack of precision damage. The one exception being Sleeper, as it actually can headshot. Auto rifles need a way to become more efficient in PvE. Their ammo pools being so low compared to their potential hinders them there. Currently Hand cannons, pulse rifles and Scouts dominate PvE due to that issue. Ghost bullets should be prevented in PvE as well (and PvP as well). Provided those changes only affected PvE, i feel like these would offer a lot more variety in PvE and allow a lot of currently weaker weapons to compete with stronger varients as well. Naturally, all of these changes should be PvE only, to stop the nerf herders crying about them.
