Was the Taken King collector's Edition, or Collector's Edition upgrade, ever purchased on your Wife's account?

She played my game - there was no need for a second copy of Destiny until the new console entered the home. So no. Best option we had available to us was to buy the Destiny collection that was released for Rise of Iron. the $60 version with all the older content included.

It sounds like your wife had access to your CE license under Digital Rights Management features. DRM can provide access to content under certain circumstances, but does not provide the second account ownership of content. If the DRM usage circumstances change, access is therefore lost. The CE content requires a license to use, even if it is in your inventory. DRM features are console features - it is recommended that you contact your console manufacturer for DRM support.

That's what I figured. They'll just say I don't have it and that's fair. Really, the true question here is do I have any option to get it again, at this late juncture for my poor, wishes she'd taken my console, wife?

As Destiny moves into RoI, they may phase the year 2 content out of the stores (if they haven't already) - I can't speak to that for certain though, that would also be a console manufacturer conversation.
