Depends, sometimes the death penalty is just a easy way out for the defendant, if they're wanting to end their life doing it for them isn't a punishment.

The point of the death penalty is not a punishment (the criminal won't care when they're dead) but it is to prevent further actions from being taken by said criminal. So it's not about doing whatever the criminal doesn't want to do, it's what's better for the people.

My point is that capital punishment is not about crime prevention. It's about justice. Law is meant to be understood not misleading.
