Covenant? That's exactly what they're imaged after. The covenant were once the superior race before humans, eventually the covenant had a falling out and they ended up becoming greedy for power or something. Halo's lore is very deep and interesting, which is where Destiny gets it from

If I remember the covenant was the collection of alien races - but there was that one alien race with the sword and avatar- too lazy to Google it - but they're were betrayed by brutes and covenant and joined humans (remind me of fallen)

They we go - fallen remind me of elites , if you remember were originally enemies in halo but became a playable character in halo 2 and eventually allies I could see this happening with fallen , especially since they're here because they followed the traveler- hard to imagine with their brutal history towards earth , but they're weren't like that originally when the traveler first visited their planet

That alien race is almost directly related to the humans I believe. Like siblings from a cosmic being. One was given a chance to hold the power, they lost it so the humans for their turn and succeeded
