Yeah, this seems about right. E3 will always be a great place to showcase new titles and peripherals, but major hardware announcements seem better suited for a stand-alone press conference. Doing so will allow each company to set their own schedule and length of the show, and wont find themselves competing with other systems and game announcements.
Hell, each system could dedicate a whole week to releasing info, tech demos, press conferences, interviews, etc. and have the spotlight all to themselves if they chose to.
Quite frankly, I don't know what took them this long to switch to this style of marketing.

You have to admit it is pretty sad that it is around the corner and FF Versus XIII still has no release date. It will probably be on ps4.
