I just want to point out! The one time I got banned was because I made a thread about necromancy. Everyone else thought it was necrophilia, including the ninjas... Let's say it's left a burning impression on what I think of their intelligence.

  • I'm sorry to hear about that, hopefully this thread doesn't get taken down and we can discuss the topic freely.

  • Indeed! Speaking of which. When represented in video games and film necromancy just seems so.. I'm not even sure how describe it other than disappointing?

  • I suppose they tend to disappoint because very rarely can those forms of media fully capture the various...intricacies and philosophy underlying the concept as a whole. Unless it's some sort of documentary, films and video games are all typically designed with entertainment in mind, and most people aren't interested in the know how and reasoning behind supernatural abilities. They just want to either be able to use the powers, or see them used through the magic of cinema/game design. And to be fair, I can't blame them. Entertainment is entertainment. If someone truly wishes to become educated on these subjects, they'll seek out the information on their own time through reliable sources, rather than through forms of media designed for leisure through scripted fantasy.

  • I don't know how you feel about anime, but full metal alchemist brotherhood Is an example of a fantasy with rules. If necromancy could be done with a splash of science (laws that govern and dictate how the world works) people would be a lot more fascinated. For example Spider-Mans powers are limited, and what makes it interesting is how those limitations inspire creativity.

  • I've never been too into anime, but i've seen a few episodes here and there, and the fact that there were rules and reasoning behind the powers in that show is actually part of what made it seem interesting to me. I'm somewhat analytical about that sort of thing, so even with fantasy powers and magic I just wonder about the process, the how and why.
