Maybe you shouldn't have killed all their buffalo, and claimed exclusive hunting rights on all their deer then...
PS: Coyotes kill more livestock then wolves do, but I don't hear people complaining about them.
Okay. Well, I would t say that most people hate wolves through. Most people seem to admire them, and are at least interested. The only way people hate wolves is when they attack people, or for their reputation for killing and eating livestock
Two... That's the number of people killed by wolves in the past 150 years(EDIT: Unprovoked attacks in America). And in both cases the wolves were sick and starving.
And coyotes kill more livestock each year then wolves do... Most wolves tend to stay away from cattle because most living wolves have never hunted large game (like cows and buffalo), and it's much easier to hunt the smaller deer that are in over abundance in the vast majority of the US.

I'm not just talking about America. Hatred and fear of wolves is a well founded attitude that dates back far before our time and country existed. While any and all wolf attacks are infrequent in North America, they are still something that happens, has happened, and will always happened, because wolves are animals. Animals will always work on levels that are very different and similar to humans, but a definite is that animals, if the need arises, can and will attack people, regardless of species, diet, or circumstances.
So I guess to answer the question, yes, wolves aren't as dangerous as people think, but to paint them in a way that makes them appear as people-loving nature spirits is just as foolhardy and dangerous as demonizing them, which almost lead to their extinction
No one (that I know anyway) is trying to paint them that way... Everyone knows that they are wild animals (just like humans are)... I'll I am saying is that we live in a society that is more then capable of living with wolves. And the misinformation that is still spread about wolves being man eating monsters needs to stop.
