If it does become popular it will be in PVE and that will be because of its versatility. I haven't seen that stats on it myself yet but a few posts I've come across say it will be an average Auto Rifle/Pulse Rifle/Scout Rifle so the PVP crowd probably won't gravitate towards it for competitive play.
