As I see the character, Zavala cares deeply for his subordinates in both that he will whip your a** into shape if you cross lines and pick you back up if you fall. He's a role model Defender

As does everyone, but I'm a Defender by trade (and really the only one in my team who runs it as a main) so I am a little biased. Plus Zavala really does fit the Defender archetype, he wants to save the City, not just one or two things. That doesn't mean he can't be a Striker as well hell I made a brief spin off story where he was for a moment just for laughs.
