Metacritic doesn't make reviews. They average all professional reviewers' reviews.
-
Yes, but the algorithm Metacritic uses is faulty. They weigh popular reviewers scores more than a lesser known one. For example, 1 IGN score would be worth 2 Polygon scores, or whatever. Which is why I don't look at Metacritic for scores.
-
Polygon, IGN, Gamespot, Gameinformer, euro gamer, or literally any reviewer that you know of are the ones that have the most weight. It is the strange sites that are technically professional that don't have as much weight.
-
It was just an example, there's no need to get technical. Regardless, weighing review sites more than others skews results.
-
I could make a very strong argument that IGN, Polygon, GI, GameSpot, and the likes are more reliable and valid than other random "professional" websites.

"7/10 too much water."

-
Yes. Because if we go with what you're saying, your opinion isn't worth as much as IGN, because they're "professional" and you aren't.

Edited by Psychic Donuts: 8/5/2016 3:08:45 AMLet's use Polygon for an example because I feel a bit strange defending IGN but the reviewer said "Too much water" because there were too many water type Pokemon in the game. That can cause a balancing issue. Professional reviewers, like Polygon or GameSpot, get paid to make fair reviews. They aren't made by some loser who only likes shooter games. The person who reviews the game will understand and appreciate the genre so they can make an adequate review of something. To answer your question, yes. Polygon, GameSpot, GI, the good IGN reviewers, Eurogamer, or others like these are more than likely more fair and educated than I am because they get paid to be all those things.

^^^I'm surprised how many people don't realise this, just attack Metacritic.
-
I know. Their user reviews are something awful though, but that doesn't have anything to do with the main score.
