It's wrong and should be federally outlawed like it already is in many European countries and some American cities. Deal with the claws and find other ways to mitigate scratching or don't get a cat. Declawing is for lazy owners who care more about convenience than they do the well being of their pets.

    Neutering, while it might sound bad and is by no means necessary, is a much better surgery. It doesn't leave an animal with negative mental and physical health side effects and without the means to function properly like declawing does. There are also reasons for neutering besides simple matters of conveniece.

    Not the same thing. A cat who runs away without its balls will be just fine. A cat who runs away without its claws has no form of protection or hunting ability.
