Thank you for the suggestions, Captain Obvious.
All these problems exist in the game because Bungie refuses to fix the root problem that they all share:
Primary weapons take too long to kill, and are no match for the game's special weapons and special abilities.
Which is why one the first things you'll see when a Striker gets flanked, is that he'll start running in a circle to charge up his Shoulder Charge....and why some do nothing but spam that attack for the entire match. They don't evne bother to look for gunfights.
The Last Word only became a problem when Bungie started nerfing ARs and raising the primary weapon TTK in general.
..and your sniper advice is of no use against the drag-scoper that can take 3 scout rifles shots off his head, before killing you with a precision shot because the high aim-assist and low flinch makes doing so easy.
Nevermind the Quickscoper who uses it to QS you from shotgun range.
PVP in this game right now is POORLY balanced. Primaries are balanced with respect to one another....but are ridiculously underpowered compared to everything else.

Vertical space. Pretty hard to dragscope someone jumping over you, since dragscoping as a rule requires you to have aligned your marker on at least one axis.
-
A good sniper will never let you live long enough to get that close. ...and with the high aim-assist snipers in this game, it is very easy to pick people out of the air.
-
Most of the things that you stated are about a specific playstyle. Playstyles can also be countered and things like getting flanked or quickscoped can be prevented or limited by playing smart and using effective counters.
-
Not play styles. Play styles that exploit broken mechanics within the game that exist because Bungie doesn't know how to properly balance this kind of weapon system. Because they keep tyring to force a Halo-style TTK on a system that has more in common with Call of Duty or Titanfall than Halo.
-
How is someone flanking you and/or quickscoping you a broken mechanic?
-
The fact that someone can headshot someone else from within shotgun range, almost as fast as you can kill them with a shotgun See Planet Destiny podcast on the stat of snipers. It was done by Holtzmann----top 1% player and sniper main. ..and even HE had to admit that there are simply NO disadvantages int he game right now to running with a sniper rifle, and that trying to go up against someone with a sniper when you're armed with a primary is one of the most frustrating things in the game right now, because its "impossible to pressure them enough to keep them from headshotting or bodyshotting you before you can kill them." Games like Call of Duty and Titanfall keep snipers in balance by allowing prmary weapons to kill quickly...and thus create situational disadvantage for snipers in shorter-range fights. But primaries in this game kill so slowly, that snipers have almost nothing to fear from them.
-
I'm for buffs, especially to primaries, but quickscoping is not a broken mechanic and I don't care who says that it is. Top 1%, top 69%. It doesn't matter. There is nothing broken about it.
-
Quickspoing is a problem and broken because there's no accuracy penalty while moving AND the poor flinch implementation while getting fired upon. Accuracy penalty while moving along with a more pronounced accuracy delay when scoping would fix that. There's no way (even in the future) that anyone should have immediate full accuracy while moving OR just by going into ADS. Flinch movement needs to be randomized and not re-center. This would mean that actual thumb skill (Something Bungie talk about wanting to promote) is needed to reacquire your target instead of timing a broken mechanic.

Edited by TheArtist: 8/2/2016 12:32:36 PMEver handled a real sniper rifle? Ever seen what the recoil on a Barrett's .50 cal is like?
-
A Barrett .50 Cal is from a game that is supposed to be realistic. Destiny is supposed to be 100s of years in the future. Do you think that 100s of years in the future, there are no weapon advancements that improve things like weapon handling?

Edited by Hurphy: 8/2/2016 11:57:46 PMBeings they still employ the use of gunpowder....yes
-
Yes. But then those same weapons have to have SOME sort of grounding in gunpowder firearms of the 21st century..otherwise, lets just issue everyone a blaster, a lightsaber and go full-on Star Wars. From a simple game balance stand point it makes no sense for a weapon that can kill in maximum of two shots handle and shoot nearly as fast as one that takes four or five shots to kill.
-
I guess so, but like I said, I'm for potential primary buffs, so hopefully they will be buffed to keep snipers in check.
