Yep. The whole of existence is based around consumption of things that are "alive" in some way. Seems pretty -blam!-ed up when you think about it.
We could honestly be more respectful about how we do it though. It's just that the demand of a massive population has caused the process to be out of sight and out of mind and has desensitized us to it, and even has some of us glorifying what is actually a horrid and probably immoral process.
Oh well...

SURVIVAL OF THE FITEST

To my knowledge, only very strict Hindus and Buddhists don't kill things to get food. They wait for the plant or fruit to drop off of its own accord, meaning it was pretty much rotten to start with. Very respectful of all living things. That's no way to live.
-
That's no way to live.
You mean you wouldn't want to live like that. But they do. So it's fine.
-
All things, including the plants, live off of something else's death. If you don't participate in that, you're not participating in life.

If you don't participate in that, you're not participating in life.
I don't see that as relevant to the comment I made. All I said was they choose to live a certain way that has less of an impact on other living things. You might not want to live that way. But they do. It's all a personal choice.

You know you don't have to quote people, right? I'm pretty sure they remember what they said.
You know you don't have to quote people, right? I'm pretty sure they remember what they said.
Sometimes people edit their posts. I don't have to quote. Just like you didn't have to leave a comment on what I said. It's all a personal choice, bud.
-
Ooh, "bud". Your logic just got infinitely more sound.
Ooh, "bud". Your logic just got infinitely more sound.
Thanks, bud.

No problem, champ. Hey, you want to come play catch, sport? You can use my old mitt.
No problem, champ. Hey, you want to come play catch, sport? You can use my old mitt.
What's wrong, bud? Wanna talk about something that is bothering you. You're first comment was about how I don't need to quote people. Now it's this. Have you stop trying to convince me. Or are you just annoyed with me just because I said bud?
-
I just don't really like you lol. I like even less your inability to use question marks.
I just don't really like you lol. I like even less your inability to use question marks.
You don't like me. You don't know anything about me other than the comments I've left. So what did I say that's annoyed you?
-
Everything.
-
Everything.
Why do you keep responding back if everything I say annoys you? The best way not to get annoyed by me is not to talk to me. Another solution is to mute me. You can even respond to this comment and say you're going to mute me. Then you'll have the last word.

Their choice flows from their religion, and their religion is based on withdrawing from the world. Sure, it's their choice; but that's what their choice means. That's all I was pointing out. There is another form of Buddhism which stresses personal peace, engagement in the world, doing good deeds, and living well. I could get with that. It's more a philosophy than a religion.
-
I had a religion class once. I'm not sure if I remember this correctly but they disconnect from this world to reach peace and enlightenment. Or was that Hinduism?
-
If you have to disconnect from this world to achieve peace, what does that say about this world? Makes you wonder. Speaks volumes for the society we have created for ourselves.
