Anybody who actually thinks that Bungie is using this as a chance to make the game better is blatantly deluded. Like, the evidence is right there in front of you that they won't, and you still think so?
I mean, what, do you guys think that they can now make crazier new enemy types that couldn't exist on last-gen?
Well, you're wrong, last-gen can already handle the Fallen. Having more Fallen isn't going to change that.
Do you guys think the environments will be crazier and more interesting?
Well, you're wrong, last-gen can already handle Earth. Painting it white doesn't really change anything.
Do you guys think the exotics will be crazier than you could ever dream of?
Well, you're wrong, last-gen already had Gjallarhorn. Painting it jet-black doesn't really change anything.
... look, I'm not necessarily saying there won't be ANYTHING that justifies the transition, but nothing we've seen has proven that the transition was necessary, either. So saying that the transition was required so that Bungie could do bigger and better things... well, someone should get that memo to Bungie, since I don't think they know.

On Legacy, the Ravenous Heart on the Touch of Malice won't spin
-
remember when bungie said by dropping last gen they could make more drastic changes to the game?
these reskins doe
-
Uh, yeah, the old consoles already can't handle the stuff in game as it is. You say something as poorly thought out as "crazier exotics" when current exotics we already have don't even function the same. The gyroscope around the tomb husk on Touch of Malice for example doesn't work on old gen, but spins on current. Also ambient things, like particle effects, fog, objects blowing around in the environment, flags on buildings, etc. are severely reduced or removed on old gen. The textures of fabrics and materials is different even. Add to that less than 10% of players are still on old gen, and the only delusional ones are people like you...
-
"OH YEAH THE GREEEEPHICS" "WE NEED GREEEPHICS" "THAT CORE SPINS LOOK AT THE GREEEEPHICS" I mean, yeah, the game looks nice on CG, but man doesn't it justify your point
-
Go play the Atari in that case. True, graphics aren't everything, but it is specifically one of the things OP says isn't any different, and therefore isn't a reason to drop old gen, which is completely wrong. So like I said before, if old gen can't even handle running the full game as is, no way will new more demanding things work at all.
-
old gen can't even handle running the full game as is
If Bungie are too lazy to rescale the textures and edit maps, it's their problem. I paid money, and I didn't pay for it to just go down the drain. Metal Gear Solid 4 still looks amazing and beautiful, and sometimes I forget it's now a last generation console. It's not the problem of the hardware - you're too lazy to optimise it properly, players mustn't take a hit from that.
-
I could counter, that retexturing, re optimizing, coding, and separating changes between the two all cost them money too. More money than a mere 10% of the player base will suffice to support. On the same note, current gen has been out for three years now. I could argue just as you say your money is being wasted, I feel my money is being wasted by having my current games held back by people that aren't willing to accept that you can't have new stuff on the old hardware. Call it what you want, but limitations are limitations, no matter how delusional you are to think its so simple to make it run the same on each.
-
The immolation fists only has detail on one arm
-
And things like the beetle on the Hunter gauntlets doesn't move on old gen either.
-
The real truth is that anyone that thinks it's smart business and/or a smart development decision to continue supporting a portion of less than 10% of the game's population, and dwindling, on legacy consoles that underperform, are lower quality experiences, cost extra time for development, and won't make any significant portion of sales is an idiot who doesn't notice the bigger picture. You're thinking short-sighted. The simple question to answer here is if you know less than 10% of people are still on legacy consoles and you've already had to push back Destiny 2 because it's going to take more time and you need more developers on it, why wait?

I'll remind you: ROI IS STILL A PART OF DESINY It's still the same game It still runs on the same engine and has the same assets You don't kick out players IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME How much of a blind-folded fanboy must you be to not acknowledge that this is a stab in the back? I didn't want to donate to Bungie by buying Destiny on LG! This isn't a F2P to donate, this game has the biggest budget in any videogame. Warframe beats it completely. A FRICKIN' F2P! Think about it.
-
Edited by GrundleBeans: 8/4/2016 2:50:39 AMYou do understand that it's also an ADDITION to the game and not replacing anything, right? The more assets and systems you add to the base game, the greater the complexity it becomes, eventually to a point where hardware is a limitation of being able to play the game at all. The exact same issue occurs with PC games. This is how technology in general works. It's got fvck all to do with defending Bungie and their particular game. They're not kicking anyone out. Get your shit straight and stop making things up. Nobody is being forced out of the game. RoI is only an addition to the game, it's not THE game and you all can keep playing what you have plus get RoI any time you want to upgrade to a current gen console. Go play something else if you can't get over it.
-
Also, forgot to reply your "play something else" thing. Already did that. Amazing how handheld consoles and F2P's beat a game with the biggest budget and a nice studio behind it. 10/10 would eat garbage again
-
Amazing how smaller games with completely different engines and less hardware needs, because they're smaller and graphically inferior, don't have these issues... oh wait, because that's fvcking basic common sense about technology.

Warframe's Evolution Engine looks nice with cool effects and all that. Thanks, actually. I'm over the money I donated to Bungie. Kinda no point in arguing over one of the bigger disappointments of 2015-16, huh.
-
To each his own.
-
Well, seems logical, but I can counter that with Warframe's Evolution Engine that actually sometimes looks far more impressive with nice lighting and effects. You know what? Thanks, actually, I'm over the money I donated to Bungie. I mean it tho. Kinda no point in arguing about one of the bigger disappointments of 2015, huh.

I dunno, TTK worked fine on my PS3. You can get over some of the loading times, and framerates only drops when I aim while a Tombship is shooting at me. Name at least one example of an addition that cuts half of the fun to last gen and leaves them with dumb grinding everyone is sick of. Sound fun, right? They don't need to cut anything, and I doubt with the budget at hand Bungie's employees don't have enough cash for it. There is no valid justification. I can just say it's lazy, and I'll probably be right. RIP AJ should've listened to you earlier

Clearly adding more would only tip it past the point of the issues you just described into errors, extremely long loading, and crashes.
They don't need to cut anything,
According to who? According to what? You know how the game is coded, how it works, what the limits are to each console and exactly what can and can't be done? You know all these things despite not spending a second asking these questions to devs or writing any code whatsoever? Are you an expert?
and I doubt with the budget at hand Bungie's employees don't have enough cash for it.
Money has little to do with it. When 90% of your playerbase is on current gen and growing, while 10% is not and shrinking, all while you're faced with console hardware limitations, the logical business AND development decisions to make are to stop supporting a lost cause. It's nothing personal and it's not about making money, it's about stopping the loss of time and resources that cost money on a losing front.
There is no valid justification.
I just gave it.
Which just goes to prove the point that the console is near it's limit of what it can handle in the game. Clearly adding more would only tip it past the point of the issues you just described into errors, extremely long loading, and crashes
MGS 4 wasn't coming on PS4, as far as I remember. Framerates were still dropping on some of the moments, and it was due to the abundance of effects and ragdolls, since it was a stealth game rather than a shooter. Also, yeah, jeez it would be really diffident with all those reskins we're gonna have. Tough times loading the same models and textures but with a little bit of decoration.
According to who? According to what? You know how the game is coded, how it works, what the limits are to each console and exactly what can and can't be done? You know all these things despite not spending a second asking these questions to devs or writing any code whatsoever?
Gotcha there, buddy. Thought you may bring that up. Actually had some experience in UE3, where I had to change very little in texture rescaling and model improvement to play a map on PC and PS3. As I said, they could give players something to make up for it, since the game still is a flaming piece of garbage. I expected something out of it. And that's what I get for my loyalty, as well as other players. Last gen or not, they are still people and consumers. I have a PS4, yeah, but how much worthy it is to buy the DLC? And pay monthly for sh1tty indie games for a great chunk of the game?

Edited by GrundleBeans: 8/4/2016 3:35:49 AM
Also, yeah, jeez it would be really diffident with all those reskins we're gonna have. Tough times loading the same models and textures but with a little bit of decoration.
It's more complex than that. Every little difference is an additional asset that has to be rendered and many assets behind the scenes are unique IDs still. There may also be different sounds and effects applied even if two guns share the same skins. There may be different perks that have different effects on the guns. New decorations (ornaments) means more and more textures and new assets. New visual effects, possibly even new sounds. This is all just thinking about weapons though. There's still a shit ton more added in a DLC. New enemies with new models and skins. New map areas and effects. New icons, new UI designs, new quests, new emblems, new shaders, etc. PS3 and 360 already had lower quality graphics with less details, less animations, and lower quality textures to start with. The irony is that if you leave you might just be going right before the best things happen to this game across the board. It could be just the starting point of getting everything we wanted.

They are not dropping last gen as a choice. They have to drop last gen if they want to release any new content. Last gen can't Handle some stuff. FFS they can't even have a emote in last gen.
-
The thing that justifies the transition? The current generations of console are 3 years old. If you want to not upgrade after three years thats fine but expecting that hardware to be supported is just stupid. Why does no one make anything for my super famicom anymore!?!?!
-
As I mentioned in another reply here: it's the same game. The same engine The same assets It's not a sequel And you don't fcuking drop players in the middle of a game? What company did that?
