I'll be very surprised if republicans keep control of congress after their years of blatant obstructionism.

Edited by Vgnut: 7/29/2016 12:35:01 AMUnlikely for the House. Lots of districts have been gerrymandered by Republican governors to make sure the demographics lean red. Democrats have a good shot at taking the Senate back.

And if the democrats were doing it?

I've never understood this statement considering that Republicans didn't dominate Congress until the end of 2014/beginning of 2015. Before then, the last time they controlled Congress was 2006.
-
Edited by Vgnut: 7/29/2016 12:45:14 AMIt's not hard to understand. They've had control of the House since 2010 and have used that to obstruct Democratic measures. While not controlling all of Congress they could still be obstructionist.
-
How is it not understandable? Wanna remind me when the last government shutdown was?
-
The "years of blatant obstruction" part. I won't argue with recent obstruction but people act like this has been happening throughout Obama's presidency when again, Republicans didn't take over Congress until about a year and a half ago.
-
Even so, don't they have a record number of filibusters compared to history? I would consider that pretty obstructionist.
-
I don't know the stats on that. Typically when people refer to this, they're referring to what Obama "had to endure".
-
Fair enough. I misspoke.
-
It's all good. I just see it so often in social media, etc.
-
They will, they might not win senate
-
Bold prediction. We'll see.
-
They haven't lost control of Congress yet, and in the last election they gained seats. Democrats only vote every four years and even then it's in declining numbers. They might take control this year just because it's a new pres, but because these candidates are so awful I think enough will stay home that Republicans control Congress still. Hilary will still probably win though.
-
All of the house is up for election, and 34 Senate seats. 24 of which are republicans. If democrats have a high general turnout, you could see a large shift.
-
Definitely, I just don't see a high turnout happening with these presidential candidates. The only reason I see Hilary winning is because enough Republicans will vote for her over Trump. But those Republicans will still vote Republican down the rest of the ticket. Not enough people pay attention to politics to realize they have only caused obstruction the last 6 years.
-
Time will tell.
-
Yep, I really really hope I'm wrong!
