[i]I paused, looking over at Xavier incredulously. "I literally just said 'taste of their own medicine' while looking down the way those guys flanked us from. What do you think?"[/i]

[i]"That, my friend, is what the shield and element of surprise is for. Personally, I'd prefer a lot more firepower than this - say, a high-mobility combat mech - but this'll do. Now, let's get going."[/i]

[i]Xavier nods.[/i] "I'll run interference, you shoot them up." [i]Xavier then took his position, like a man in a 100m sprint. He then took off in a ridiculous speed, rushing towards each of the attackers and taking them down in quick succession. The attackers start to focus fire on Xavier.[/i]

[i]"Well, I was more thinking going the long way around, but I guess this works," I said, coming around the corner. With my shield, I didn't really need any solid cover, so I simply advanced, taking slow, measured shots to take down the remaining targets not decimated by Xavier. Soon enough between the two of us, it was clear.[/i]

[i]It goes silent.[/i] "Check their bodies for anything useful. Never know what you could find."

[i]"But... we're in a dream simulation. None of this is real. I think."[/i]

"Well, we aren't getting out until we escape the fracture, which is the area we are in now. We have to get to my home base, which is a few kilometres away from us."

[i]I sighed. "Of course it's not just 'hey, we won, answers abound'." I started searching through the bodies, though, looking for anything interesting.[/i]

[i]Some still usable armour pieces, ammo, bunch of weird tech, blah blah blah... A floating corpse catches your eye, and he seemed to have some tech you haven't seen before.[/i]

[i]"Um, Xavier? The hell is that?"[/i]

[i]He isn't around. The corpse seemed to have a suit that had yellow bulb things around it. It seems like a power suit of some kind, judging from the frame and all that.[/i]

[i]"Well, that ain't freakin' ominous," I grumbled. Picking up a bit of rubble, I gave it a toss in my hand before throwing it at the floating corpse.[/i]

[i]It moves, but it still floats there.[/i]

[i]I looked around one last time for Xavier.[/i]

"So..." [i]Xavier walked up to the floating corpse.[/i] "Did you know, that some people exploited the fracture, making powers out of it? Well, certain companies that were unaffected or were built researched this opportunity, giving it to their soldiers. The process is highly costly though, so you won't see much of them going around." [i]He touched the floating corpse, making it fall to the ground.[/i] "This is just a memory though, so I don't get anything by absorbing this."

[i]"You can tell me about this 'fracture' later. For now, let's get out of here."[/i]

"Well, alright." [i]Xavier started gathering the survivors. [/i]

[i]"So, what's the situation, here?" I asked, looking over the survivors.[/i]

[i]The people that have been pulled out of frozen time were all still accounted for. Along with some prisoners of those attackers.[/i]

[i]"Who are you guys, and why were those jackasses trying to kill you?"[/i]

[i]Your allies took time to introduce themselves, but they have no idea why they were being attacked.[/i]

[i]I shook my head, sighing. "Same shit, different place." I turned to Xavier. "So, what's the plan, boss man?"[/i]

"Leave for the safehouse."

[i]More land and concrete materialised as they walked. The concrete and dust went to their places as they walked.[/i]
