Any tidbits on how pokemon tracking works? Aside from "as footsteps decrease from 3 to 2 to 1, you're getting closer".

I heard that 3 is in or near your neighborhood, and ten is within 30 meters. Forgot what two was
-
I've heard each footstep is 300m but who knows
-
Where it is in the grid is also a factor. Top left is closest and it reads like a book left to right.

I found it's good to go with a friend, cause their app might update faster than yours. but the pokemon location won't move really. I was right on top of a snorlax last night, but still said 3 paws away for my friend (standing right next to me) and then suddenly it appeared on her screen

There's not much more to it. The beta had actual distances, but I guess they felt that made it too easy.
-
The footsteps were probably a more stable and forgiveable inaccurate option that they implemented for the time being while trying to make the app usable worldwide.
-
Well... you probably know this but I'll tell you anyway. As you start heading in the correct direction towards a pokemon the box with nearby pokemon will do like a white box sorta thing that fades
-
See I've heard this, but I doubt that's how it works. Because I see the tracking box pulse with that green perimeter even when no pokemon are selected. Instead, it appears to pulse anytime there is a change to the tracking box (pokemon appears/disappears, footprint change).
-
Hmmm, well I only heard from others that it sorta did the pulse when you headed in a correct direction. But it could also just be a change to the nearby pokemon leaving or coming. Who knows really.

That pulse is just the "nearby pokemon" refreshing.
