We actually live within 10 miles of each other, not that that's the point you were making. And we're in the UK so no Pokemon Go yet... :-(

Just download the apk file for android devices.. You can do something similar for an iPhone. If you still wish to wait for the official app then you can still use this method to get a feel for the game atleast.
