I've always been scared to try lucid dreaming because of the horrible stories about sleep paralysis I've heard.

  • This typicaly only happens if some form of dream or rreal world stimuli shocks you awake abruptly while in the middle of REM sleep. Something as simple as breathing excercises before bed can help prevent this.

  • Those things are different. Sleep paralysis is when you're awake and cannot move, but hallucinate. Lucid dreaming, however, is when you're asleep, and able to control your dreams.

  • I know the difference between them, but what I mean is that I've heard they often come hand in hand.
