I highly doubt he would want to be friends with us after we essentially destroyed the entire upper echelon of his power and tribute structure and killed his family while doing so. Variks is our buddy (for now) because we haven't ever done anything to him, tho I'm positive he is working towards some endgame goal to which we are not privy at this point.
