Edited by G1: 7/5/2016 8:53:56 PMQueen Catherine II of Russia and the armed neutrality blockaded British ports which delayed British supplied and gave the Americans (and the French too) the edge to assist them in turning the tide of the war for American independence. Edit: the original purpose was to protect ships that were neutral from British privateers or legal pirates as well as the Royal Navy who was checking for French contraband.
