I don't think it's an exploit. Just good bubble placement, which you've already said, is only mildly useful. It's about as much of an exploit of me encountering the bottom of an enemy bubble in Firebase Delphi (it was at that window that most Trials teams fight by, and I was outside on the ground), and shooting it with golden gun to destroy it; the team had no clue what took out the bubble.

Fair point - I'd be interested to know exactly what you can survive (e.g. sniper headshot) with the armour buff, to fully understand it's usefulness, and whether having it and being able to shoot out of the bubble is useful, or pointless.
