Odd server error doesn't return you to orbit. Then prompts the Class selection screen. (Video Proof) Possibly is deleting characters
Skip to the end to see the class select prompting There is a long period of a blank screen in the video, this is merely to prove that the error is real and will not return you to the title screen, orbit, or character select.
A rare error that occurred after the June update.
As seen on the video, I am stuck in a blank screen until I go to character select, when I do I see the create a class prompt and I back out.
I recorded it because it was the first time I experienced something like this.
Please fix Bungie!

4 RepliesGood thing you backed out. Others might have accidentally erased characters. What's amazing is that this a real and proven thing. It's on VIDEO, and exactly ZERO Bungie personnel have responded to it. However, extra rockets; yeah, they're all over that.

10 RepliesEdited by Erijian: 7/2/2016 5:58:22 PMI'll take a guess at what's going on: Game failed to connect to Bungie's servers giving you a black screen, you backed out to character selection BUT because your game couldn't gather your data, you're presented with the character selection screen. That's because the game now thinks you have no characters, which makes sense since your progress wasn't downloaded, and if you proceed into the character selection IN ANY WAY, your character will be overwritten with the new one (If you did the creation fully) or outright deleted (If you chose a Class and backed out at any point before the former) once the game catches up. The game would probably recognize it as a manual character deletion too, which Bungie doesn't offer recovery services for. There's no proof of it deleting your characters yet or not, so it's just conjecture.

I made a post of a few things I recorded this week. My experience is similar to yours but it would happen randomly in PVE and PVP. "Contacting Destiny Servers" followed by black screen, baboon, weasel etc. I've been kicked from Crucible games only to spawn back in to the same game (I can hear players shooting, grenades etc after a minute or two) and when I do get back in to the match I lose my special ammo, still had my super up but lost all of my points and was back on 0... Other times I got kicked to the main menu like you. I would have died if I saw your screen. Luckily you pressed back, knowing me I just spam "X" when ever it happened but seeing this I'm definitely going to slow it down and be very careful. This latest patch has been by far the buggiest I've ever seen. I've never had any major issues in Destiny before up until now. Bungie usually address these issues but I think they're still scratching their head wondering wtf went wrong. I hope they give us answers and fix it.

When you changed equipped items it flashed Contacting Destiny Servers like it was frantically trying to inform the server of the equipment change. I'm glad you didn't lose anything, but I think you're right and this is indeed the character-deleting error caught on camera. I wonder what would've happened if you'd actually picked a class and made a new character at the prompt. Would it have overwritten your Warlock?

I mean something is sabotaging this game and all of us can see it's more and more "worse". I prefer Bird/Weasel/Apple and all animals/things errors names i don't remember... But trying to erase my character???!!!! 2 years of labours???!! Don't mess with us at this point Bungie because it's how you can create a very hating community
