Anyone speculating that Microsoft is going to release a $1,500 console is out of their -blam!-ing mind.

  • Anything above $700 is crazy and $700 is pushing it.

  • Won't be less than 600$ i can tell you that much. If its less than that, then ms will be eating it big or the next few years, and that's even if it sold as well as the current xbo did (which we cab all agree that it wont if the polls around here are of any indication). How many people here do you think are willing to spend that much on any console? Especially if some of those have pcs already. Ms would have been better to just release the slim and focus on the pc xb platform and scrap the scorpio all together. Just an opinion.

If the Scorpio is less than $600, even $700, and can run games in 4k it is already super good for the price you are paying. Microsoft is giving PC power to console only players. These console only players don't want to deal with all the management that comes with buying a PC so they will not ever be able to use this type of power. Now, Microsoft is supporting all of its players and making them all be able to play the games they love their way. The Scorpio is a necessity in this plan or else console gamers can't run the games they love like PC gamers can.

  • You're think from a pc gamer perspective. Yes its a good deal. 700 for 4k gaming compared to 1.5k+ rig it would cost to achieve the same. However, jist a small fraction of console gamers will see it the same way, the rest (casual) will see the price and think the -blam!- are they thinking (kinda like the 600$ ps3 back in the day). Think about the parents looking to buy a console as present. You really think the average soccer mom or a grandparent will opt for the 700$ device when they can get something "just as good" for 400 or less? This will hurt ms, badly, despite the good pr for the much smaller percentage that is the hard core console gamers.

  •
This will hurt ms, badly, despite the good pr for the much smaller percentage that is the hard core console gamers.
This is incorrect. The Scorpio has an audience. It isn't that expensive to build a machine like this. Quite honestly, MS knows how to build a console and they could get it to be less than $500. The Scorpio has an audience and will sell well.

  • Time will tell.

  • Or we could look at how people reacted to it. The audience it is made for is excited.

  • That's because no price was announced. You imagine they are already in full production, so they already have the parts and components to build them which also means they know their budget. So it would be safe to assume they know what it costs to make and how much they want to sell it for right? So why not announce the price at the announcement?

Nope. If they don't have a console to show then they don't have a price. Hoe much are you expecting? It won't be close to $700. $550-600 max. MS knows how to build a console.

  • They why announce it, and what's more why give it a release date a year and a half out before they haven't anything to show? If it were coming out this fall I'd understand the announcement (something sony should have done), but a year and a half out? Why even talk about it if they have nothing to show? All it does is allow rumors run wild and unchecked that might hurt it in the year long run. Sure they have some mind share to steal some of sonys thunder now, but with this long till its out, it may be to its detriment.

  • They announced it now it so devs can openly develop for it and say they are developing for it. By the time it comes out, there will be tons of games already optimized for it because devs were able to get their hands on it now.

  • So they announced it just to prevent leaks before they were ready to talk about it, but probably wont really bring it up again before the next e3?

  • No. Did you read my comment? They did it so devs can openly start developing and optimizing for it now.

Microsoft is not going to release a $600 console. I don't know where people get these figures from. Taking the specs for the Scorpio and trying to estimate how much the console will cost to manufacture based on retail prices of those components is not how Microsoft builds their consoles. I believe Microsoft knows they have to not only have a more powerful console than the Neo but to also, at the very least, match it on price. I think the Scorpio will be $400.

  • Would be nice if it were true, but not realistic. Ms will market the scorpio as the Premium console to justify the cost. They will also be selling the slim and maybe original xbo as a more affordable option along side for those who don't wanna spend 600+. If that were not the case, then why even say they would not leave anyone behind, why even have the other two as an option of not to make it a compelling alternative to scorpio (until it drops in price a few years later). Its just unrealistic to think the scorpio would cost anything less than 600 considering what its supposed to be capable of. That is unless they wanna eat 30o+ on every console sold.

  • It is absolutely realistic. What universe are you living in? You guys posting this either have short memories or weren't watching how the start of this generation or last generation unfolded. Let's take Sony in 2006. The PS3 was the $600 premium console for hardcore gamers that was more powerful than its competitors. It tanked. And this notion that it costs Microsoft over $600 to make each Scorpio? Just stop. Microsoft makes consoles for substantially less than what you think it costs based on you looking up the price of PC components that match the leaked specs. This is a company that manufacturers hardware in batches of millions. They buy the components for these things right from the makers in massive quantities. They have factories building these things. Microsoft has an economy of scale that you, I, or any individual do not. It is INSANE to suggest Microsoft is going to release a $600+ video game console.

  • Its equally insane to suggest that you can sell a console for less than that and still say it will do what its supposed to do well. Time will tell. We just have to wait and see.

No. It is not equal whatsoever. Read my post again. These insane price amounts being suggested for the Scorpio are based on misguided assumptions. As I said Microsoft can manufacture consoles at a much cheaper per unit cost than some guy trying to build his own Scorpio. And let's just say they do end up taking a bit of a loss on the console. They're fine with that because the console manufacturers profit off of more than just their console sales. They make bonanzas off subscriptions, they get a big cut of all digital sales, they make money off peripherals, and they get royalties from every single retail copy of a game bought on their system. So I'll say again that this "It's going to be $600+" stuff is nonsense. The Scorpio will be a dud because we know not even droves of first wave adopters are willing to buy in at that price when there are cheaper options available. And if this thing doesn't sell it leads to 1) Do XB1 and PS4 users willing to buy a "premium" console then go to the Neo? 2) Do third parties do anything with Scorpio if there's no install base 3) Are people even going to migrate for such a whopping price? 4) There's no way PS4 users are abandoning their libraries for a $600 entry fee to the Scorpio when the Neo will be cheaper. This is what's actually going to happen with the Scorpio price. It'll be $399 on the low end and maybe $499 on the high end.

  • Honestly, I believe this, but the people I'm arguing with would laugh at me and disregard my major points so I bring the speculated price up to something a bit more believable so they will concur.

Really wished some users would read a post properly and maybe watch some of the linked videos before jumping to conclusions and making comments. Maybe these users are out of their tiny -blam!-ing minds? *Smh* Who knows?

Why did my post trigger you? I don't think you're speculating that. Your post just said that general speculation is that the console will cost that to make. I like your OP. It asks good question and fosters discussion. PS no one is going to watch the 13 minute Youtube video you linked to.
I don't think you're speculating that.
Great as I am not
Your post just said that general speculation is that the console will cost that to make.
With current tech, I did mention that tech will be getting cheaper.
I like your OP. It asks good question and fosters discussion.
Thank you that was the whole point of it.
PS no one is going to watch the 13 minute Youtube video you linked to.
It's a shame users don't take the time, I only linked it as the guy in the video explained and compared the tech and based on that made some reasonable speculative points.
