Except everytime a dlc is released they make it so that any engram you recieve before only will give you gear from the previous dlcs to prevent people having every exotic right from the start.

Not true. I saved engrams from b4 the last dlc and rcvd the new items released (zen meteor & chest armor for my warlock)

In the past it hasn't worked on the major upgrades., like TTK for instance. All my old engrams gave old gear. It's Bungie's way of saying start over biatch.
