Not really. Violence committed by closeted gay men against openly gay men is pretty common. when you have a culture of homophobia that teaches to shame and hate gays and tell you that it's wrong and you truly believe it, when you see people openly living their lives without that self hate it causes huge dissonance. This is just the first time the two have crossed paths
