Edited by Fur Hammerlock: 6/13/2016 5:28:05 PMAs someone who is a Medieval enthusiast, this wrong. A Battle Ax is what Saladin and we Guardians will be able to wield. A 'Battle Ax' is a two-handed, double-headed ax that is often swung top-heavy. A War* Ax is a one-handed axe used for CQC that can either be single or double faced. A Warhammer is also two handed, but has a round or square hammer on one side, and a cone-like spike on the other end. A Battlehammer is a double-headed hammer that is wielded with two hands.

no its a battle axe. a one handed axe is called a war axe and a war hammer is a hammer that has points on the head and meant for war. have you not played skyrim you moron or research history

Edited by Neon: 6/10/2016 9:15:49 PMWarhammers are physically not always a pointed pike with one end and an anvil for the other, if you assume I am incorrect with my claim because you played Skyrim you obviously are being hypocritical in the terms of 'telling me to do research'. A battle axe is a single headed or double headed axe used for close combat. The specific type of warhammer posted in the OP is actually called a Maul, which has the very close resemblance of a sledgehammer. I'll link my sources below :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maul http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/maul http://www.dictionary.com/browse/maul http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_hammer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_axe http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/battle%E2%80%93ax
Reported for disrespect :P.
The weapon Saladin wields is an axe. It has a cutting face (two of them). A hammer has a blunt face, and possibly a spike, and is not intended for cutting. It is possible to find combinations of the two, but Saladin's weapon wasn't designed for crushing. With the width of the blade you could make a good argument that it's a maul, but that would depend on how it's designed to cut, which we cannot make out from the given images.

Good rebuttal, at least you provided care in your response and I appreciate that, thank you.

Sure. Given its length you could probably safely broadly categorize it as a polearm, but calling it a war hammer would be a large stretch. Also, if we're using real life lore, you're not really going to find an of the iconic double headed war hammers in real life armories. There wasn't much room on the battlefield for weapons of that weight class. You could find some very large mallets (basically a wooden war hammer) though, because those actually existed. Any blunt melee weapon forged from iron is going to have a small as possible crushing head in order to minimize weight.

uh oh, better watch out.
