How about make thorn suppress a guardian for a very short time (1 second) like tether, on every hit. No DoT.
This would make thorn a defensive weapon, preventing panic fists and the like, while keeping the flavor of a weapon that suppresses guardian light.

Well that would suppress more than just first of panic it would suppress every supper in the game which is way to op
-
Red death breaks mechanics with its instant shield recharge in kill but that was not itself OP. This is an ability a melee can carry on all three classes, and worthy of an exotic. We already see numerous suppression effects in game, in grenade, super, and melee. If they did not break game there they won't on an otherwise lackluster primary.

Edited by BlueKiBlast: 6/4/2016 4:16:49 PMThe main different is it is a 8+ magazine (not sure how many bullets thrown holds) doing the suppression effect where as a titan has to wait 25sec to 1:00 minute on a suppressor grenade and a tether is only used when you have a super. Being able to suppress anyone at any moment is why it is op and you don't have to wait for a cool down time to do it. Oh you here a hammer of sol, bam suppressed Oh is that a land fall that wiped out my team let me just bam suppress A bald dancer from across the map let me just run over here and BAM suppressed. See what I mean and not to mention of the whole team carried a thorn. Also red death instant heal can easily be stopped if shot at just like the warlock life steal.
A bald dancer from across the map
I never want to see that in Destiny. Ever.
-
I hear what you are saying but I think you vastly overestimate the utility of a 1-second suppression.
-
Edited by BlueKiBlast: 6/4/2016 4:34:54 PMThink about this. We know that any form of suppressor in the game stuns you just for a couple of frames, what happens if the player constantly shoots an enemy constantly (there is a loop of constant suppression on that enemy). Also things like if an enemy is shot in the air they are gonna fall to their deaths if over a pit and die because they can't use their jump/glide. To compensate for such a perk the thorn would have to have its RoF be reduce to that of The First Curse.
-
A ROF decrease would be fair, if in playtesting it was deemed a little too good. But I think it would play right without it. There aren't many pits in the game; I dont think that will be an actual problem. Tell me: do you find a night stalker with silver ahamkaras, full melee recharge, and Monte Carlo to bolster smoke unfair? Because the gun I describe would be noticeably weaker than that in duration, damage, reload, and would not have area effect.
-
Well what you described was needing 1 weapon (exotic) one gauntlet (exotic) a subclass smoke ability all desperate things that need each other. The thorn you describe sounds fine but to others it's a hit miss being as in being op or not really a change at all. Even if the affect is so limited it can still stop supers instantly in one shot.
-
Yeah but the two exotics I described was more powerful than one. So what? It's clear we can't see eye to eye. Can we agree to disagree? Out of curiosity, what's your idea for balancing thorn that also keeps its flavor and lore?
-
Not to sure on the lore I would have to look into that.
-
By taking the most kick-ass gun in the game a gun that only kick-ass PvP players could get and then allowing it to be used in PvP, Bungle idiotically gave an unfair advantage to the top tier players who needed it the least. And that's exactly what's wrong with allowing PvE gear to be used in PvP. They should bring back Thorn for Year 2 and have standardized loadouts in PvP.
-
They should bring back Thorn for Year 2 and have standardized loadouts in PvP.
I still think that people would cry for nerfs, but hopefully it would at least be restricted to PvP where they can ruin their own weapons.
-
That would be op.
-
Not if it is -very- short. We already have longer suppression effects in melee and grenades; those can be recharged by a focused player in mere seconds. Those do not break the game either. The affected enemy would still have weapons they can use.
