This is really good and you clearly read up on your lore and understand it. The only input I would really have is although it does define toland as being killed I would not directly put it this way. He is no longer in his physical form yes so killed is a proper term but in a way I would say he was transformed by the song rather then killed. For the lack of a better he was transformed from a physical form to for the lack of a better term a spiritual form stuck within the hive's accendent realms.

Perhaps that serves to explain a post above. Toland studied death thoroughly, perhaps dying repeatedly and resurrecting himself to have a certain mastery of the concept. So much so that when he met Ir-Yut, her song didn't destroy him, but merely transform him.

Exactly, this is why a lot of lore related video you will find on you tube most refer to it as his body was destroyed and never referring to him as dieing. Hopefully we eventuality get something in the Grimoire that explains a bit further exactly what happens. Also I had a though about this as well, with Toland's still being alive mentally and for the lack of a better term spiritually in the ascendant world would it be possible for him to come back in the physical form as say an EXO? I have read a lot into the lore but never really bother to understand the Exo's. IK some things but there are something with the Exo's I am not sure on.

I think the Exos are synthetic bodies with human minds, not just self aware androids from the Golden Age. I think the text on the grimoire card (Exo #1, IIRC) hints that much. The speaker therein, Cayde or even Banshee states their belief that "somebody just wanted to live forever".

I believe I have heard or read that before and it does make sense.

Yeah. And therein lies one of the most frustrating things from this game. Or rather Bungie in particular: they really suck at fleshing out the lore of their Universes. Considering that Destiny is a rare breed of shooter and MMORPG, somebody forgot to tell them that RPG's are only as good as the story and lore underneath the action. And it's downright shameful that so much of the game's lore is so vague, mysterious or otherwise incomplete. And yes, I know that the state of that lore is due to the last minute story changes this game went through. But, it's been two years. TTK really didn't do much to budge the elephant in the room, which is still the mess of a story underneath the shooting and looting. I mean, just state wtf the Exos are. How the Awoken came to be and just what or who exactly the Nine or the freaking Darkness itself are. I fear the Destiny 2 will come and go and that those and many other questions will remain unanswered.

This was my thought as well. When he sacrificed Aryana -3 to The Death Singer, he became ascendant. He seems to understand sword logic so if anything he's much less than dead, and something more than alive. Can't wait to learn more.
