While it's not really against opsec to talk about it face to face, it is when it comes to social media.
Social media is held to a stricter standard due to its potential for a wide audience and near permanency. These things allow for malicious outcomes.

What? Stfu, he asked about veterans, not active service members. It would be an issue if people were saying I'm with this unit and we deploy this day and we will be doing this in deployment. Here's a unit roster ect. There is no issues with saying I served, or I am serving currently. You need to put down the kool-aid lil homie.

Edited by Happyjoey547014: 5/19/2016 9:15:02 PMYou're ignorant of earlier conversation by earlier posters that I'm referencing so I'll ignore your misguided response. However, you are still incorrect. I don't have the exact instruction but stuff like that is considered critical information, as well things like: -names and photos of you, your family or co-workers -job titles, location, salary, clearance -hobbies, likes, dislikes. Take another look at the kool-aid "Lil homie"

I read the whole thing, your just being an ass.

Then you would know that other people mentioned you shouldn't ask if somone is active duty, or be surprised if active duty don't admit to being active duty for the job title reason I mentioned earlier. You also would have noticed that I said I appreciated what he is trying to do and that I was just informing him of how things are. So no I'm not, you're acting like a misinformed child.

There is nothing wrong with the post, nothing wrong with responses. Also not to mention opsec is out the window because if me, shoktroop1, says "I am a United States marine 0302, stationed in Hawaii with 3/3 oorah lava dogs!!!" It doesn't matter because who the eff is shoktroop1. Btw, that is not my mos, station, unit.

Edited by Happyjoey547014: 5/20/2016 12:28:40 AMYour psn ID is linked to this website. That ID has your credit card info which is linked to your personal info if you don't already have that stuff entered in your bio (I would say most don't do this so let's assume you don't) That stuff can be hacked (like it was in the past. We all remember that) should somone find value in the knowledge of you being somone of high rank in the military (you may very well be, I don't know you). From there on they could go any number of directions.

Thank you for that bit of info I never knew that

What's confusing?

So you're saying I shouldn't have posted this?

Edited by Happyjoey547014: 5/19/2016 11:51:02 AMNo not at all. I appreciate what you're trying to do. It's just that military personnel are trained not to reveal their military status, past or present, on social media specifically due to how it can be used against them. You and I both know those chances are small and there's a 99.99999% chance this video won't do anything. I just thought I'd give you a little insight as to how it works.

Ah ok I see, however they're not revealimg their names

Ya you're good bro. Assuming he doesn't make his account bio public.
