The concepts are relevant here too. Canada has the same issues.

The only thing good about Canada is Poutine.

Edited by LiamCDM: 5/16/2016 11:35:33 PMAnd our universal healthcare system, and our money in politics ban.
-
America is too big of a country for any of that Socialistic crap to work though. We would run out of everyone elses money.
-
That's just factually wrong. The United States is richer, therefore it would work better than any smaller, less-weather country.
-
Then how would it work?
-
It really depends which route you'd want to go. Canada, Germany and Australia all have a universal healthcare system, but they don't all function the exact same way. It's tough to create a healthcare system like that, but the more money a nation generates, the easier it is. That was simply my point. From my understanding, Germany's functions the best because they've reduced their wait times down pretty low. If you can reduce the wait times, then you can successfully create the best healthcare system with bragging rights. I haven't updated myself on the changes to each of these country's healthcare systems this year in 2016, but this discussion has gotten me curious. Time for some reading! :)

No you wouldn't. If big businesses get billions in subsidies, why can't that money be used to fund a healthcare system?

Here is why socialism will not work. It replaces the family with the state as the central unit in society Undermines the family by redistributing its wealth and indoctrinating its children in government schools. Allows legalized theft in the name of redistributing wealth. Encourages sloth instead of productivity. Rewards irresponsibility, laziness, and poor accountability. Encourages self-indulgence instead of self-reliance. Encourages finger pointing and shifting of responsibility to others. Replaces the self-discipline of delayed gratification with the need for instant gratification. Undermines the values that are the foundation of the traditional work ethic (i.e. thrift, diligence, self-reliance, self-discipline, responsibility, accountability, deferred gratification, and hard work) and replaces them with an entitlement mentality. Treats those who contribute to the betterment of society the same as those who do not, even when they are capable of doing so. Promotes a get-something-for-nothing mentality that undermines the moral character of the individual and society. Robs people of initiative, drive, and ambition. Undermines the spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation, and competitiveness. Promotes totalitarianism, thereby undermining freedom and liberty.
Here is why socialism will not work. It replaces the family with the state as the central unit in society -family hasn't been central for some time in America. The family unit is as broken if not more so than any other place on earth. Undermines the family by redistributing its wealth and indoctrinating its children in government schools. -capitalism isn't any different. Allows legalized theft in the name of redistributing wealth. -capitalism isn't any different Encourages sloth instead of productivity. -if you don't contribute, you don't live in a communist country. Rewards irresponsibility, laziness, and poor accountability. -capitalism isn't any different. Encourages self-indulgence instead of self-reliance. -bet you can guess my counter point. Look around. Encourages finger pointing and shifting of responsibility to others. -responsibility must be taken as a whole, thus the "whole" keeps watch over individuals. Replaces the self-discipline of delayed gratification with the need for instant gratification. -... Undermines the values that are the foundation of the traditional work ethic (i.e. thrift, diligence, self-reliance, self-discipline, responsibility, accountability, deferred gratification, and hard work) and replaces them with an entitlement mentality. -...and how do one jump to that conclusion? Treats those who contribute to the betterment of society the same as those who do not, even when they are capable of doing so. ...aww, snowflake... Promotes a get-something-for-nothing mentality that undermines the moral character of the individual and society. I just can't... Robs people of initiative, drive, and ambition. ...better dead than red, huh? Undermines the spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation, and competitiveness. -how much do y'all owe red China? Does America have industry anymore? Promotes totalitarianism, thereby undermining freedom and liberty.
Uh huh. I hate to be "that guy", but every successful Socialist just rolled their eyes mate. Do you like Health insurance? Socialist ideology to pool resource like that. How about a collective military as opposed to allegiances between independent City States? You wouldn't have a country without it. Congress? Car insurance? Social safety nets? Government grants for PWD projects? Scholarship programs? Balance is key. Any system can be abused by the people in charge...I mean really, take a look around man. Ease up off the socialists. We have some good points. All that hate...you sound indoctrinated, not us.
-
No. I am just from Russia. As an American, you probably don't quite understand what Socialism is capable of and how it quickly turns into something totalitarian.
-
I'm Canadian and in a province held firmly by the NDP, our equivalent of a socialist party. I understand things can go sideways quick...but a Soviet regime and the American Plutocracy stand on equal footing in terms of how they've failed their people. My apologies for assuming you were American, but I've had this argument a few times.
-
I was in Russia while it was still Soviet and Post-Soviet. I moved to America 16 years ago. I know bad Socialism when I see it.
-
No kidding. Couldn't have been easy. All the same...why America? You could have came here, eh? The land of opportunity and socialist moderates holding democratically appointed positions in government. We also have poutine...
-
Well, I didnt really come here by choice. Adopted. I have been to Canada though. It is beautiful country. Reminds me of home. I absolutley love poutine btw.
-
No finer use of potato, cheese and gravy known to man.
-
You are too right. Amazing stuff. You should try Pirozhkis.
-
I may just have to. Certainly enough ethnic restaurants around, sure I could track some down. What are they?
-
Amazing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirozhki
-
Oh that does look good. Thanks!

Edited by LiamCDM: 5/16/2016 11:55:07 PMYou're mostly talking about Marxism.
-
Lmfao This is not Marxism
-
I posted what true progressivism actually is. It's social democracy. Not socialism.
No you wouldn't. If big businesses get billions in subsidies, why can't that money be used to fund a healthcare system?
Because it would never get to said healthcare system in the first place. They will always find a way to either keep their dough or give bare minimum.
-
Not if you close the loopholes.
