Dont know of anyone ever saying they dont want a world war 1 game. The only thing i have ever heard is that people dont want a realistic world war 1 game, and i am in agreement. There is no doubt that the new battlefield will not be realistic, the weapons will likely be more accurate, it likely wont simply be one group running at a trench and getting slaughtered by machine guns by those in the trench, you likely will not be sitting there for a three day artillery barrage before an attack, it is also not likely that you will be sent in a night raid with nothing but a club and knife, and it is unlikely they will have you needlessly fire artillery into empty spots of an enemy trench just to reach a quota for the day. The game is probably going to be far more fast paced and open field fighting so that it still feels like an epic battle (like they have done in past games), and so you are still entertained. This is by no means a bad thing, it is a video game and so it is meant to be entertaining before all else, but if you think it is going to be realistic then you are fooling yourself.

  • I'm thinking that they will let there be no mans land charges that work how they should but not a full on just run straight across. Most likely will add the need to take cover behind things in no mans land like a few dead tanks a downed plane trees and artillery craters . They announced a bayonet charge system were once you use the (ability) (not sure what it is) you are committed and cannot cancel it until it runs out of steam or you hit someone.

  • Ya that is my guess as well, i think i said something along those lines in a reply to someone. They have to have that iconic style of attack, but will change it slightly by giving you cover to move between in order to help get people to actually fight in the trenches.

  • There's actually a WWI game that does fairly well. Verdun is it's name, I think. At least, I THINK it does fairly well... Haven't really been keeping track of it.

  • I have heard of it and seen it, it is not a realistic game which is why it does well. They even have night raids in the game however it is literally impossible to make night raids realistic, first of all there would have to be a ton of people on one team and very few on the other, second the team with few people would have to have no actual guns (in world war 1 guns made a lot of noise just from carrying them and so were left behind on night raids, clubs and knives were all they had), and finally the most impossible thing is that the team with lots of players and guns would have to not know that a match is going on, and either be patrolling or sleeping (since a night raid is a stealth attack to take out enemies and gain intel, and ideally the full enemy force never knows you where there until you are long gone). To even have a basic battle where one side charges at the other would be an ridiculous game, at the very least the side charging would need to have a few hundred players to make sure at least some people go through the defensive weapons to actually fight in the trenches, there is little to no cover in no man's land (the area you run through) and it tends to have a large amount of barbed wire to get caught in and entrenched machine guns that can fire further than your rifle and so you can not take out the machine gunners (not that you would really have time to do so anyways). Any world war one game that tries to make a game mode where one team charges the trench of another team (which is pretty necessary since this was most of world war one) would need to do things like set up cover that those running can move between in order to reach the enemy trench, and the game maker would design the weapons so that the attackers could give themselves some cover fire while running and maybe take out some of the defenders on the way. Game makers will also likely leave out the tactical and technological difference between the two sides (such as that the allies made a mathematical calculation that let them pin point the location of enemy artillery, i think it was called flash and spot). A world war one game can do well, but it will not be realistic.

  • Most of the posts that think that a world war 1 game would be boring seem to think that it will be a realistic game based completely in trenches, which would be boring, but they seem to not understand that battlefield games have always greatly deviated from reality so there is no reason they would not do so this time as well.
