Chapter 1 • The Trio
Off the Coast of the Florida Keyes
The darkness was deafening, and the howling wind dragging the scent of despair along its wake, wrapping tightly around the mountainous landscape of ice. It was an everlasting hate for the world and its inhabitants, no animal, no life could thrive in this frozen damned hell. In the midst of shadows a flash of dazzling intense light broke the liquid dark, followed by two other similar pairs of lights. Out of the blinding veil shaped three figures, all of which seemed to be wearing thick metallic suits; humanoids. Slowly two of them walked forward onto the thick icy ground toward a massive skyscraper imbedded into the frozen ground.
"Oi! We gotta potential Skeleton Cavern 'ere! Get the flares out, gotta call back to base and alert 'em."
The farthest figure budged as if nodding before turning dragging their personal light along the landscape before disappearing over a dip in the ground below. The other two stood by and investigated the imbedded structure.
"You know the General doesn't like this, Commander... Its not going to be pleasing to find a full Lancer nest so early in the day."
The other smaller suited man nodded, a Normaweight commander; his suit glowing in some areas within the freezing Barrens. Suddenly the surrounding area turned blood red with the glow of a massive shower of flares all glowing smartly in the black air. The recon team would be coming soon...

The sound of incoming hover speeders is heard, three by the sounds of it.
-
The two observing the structure had heard the sudden introduction of the new sounds in the distance; this wasn't their own. The soldier who had walked over the incline was running back as fast as his suit would allow, his weapon vertical to the ground and bouncing wildly with each step. "Commander, it isn't our own but I've pinpointed three of them coming just under the pass!" Said the soldier running up to the Normaweight commander. "Were they Bred?" Asked the Normaweight hurriedly, the soldier who had run over to the commander and the heavier weight was now slightly bent over catching his breath. "No-No just... Someone else, not our own or Kliks, maybe a bandit collective?" Said the normaweight, then the drone of the distant hover speeders drew closer and the flares above became slightly dimmer. "We are going to assess the newcomers with talk, if they woild rather attack we can block of the first bullets before heading into cover- The commander jabbed a thumb back at the imbedded skyscraper, "-and it is risky, but we are the Stars, and we knew anything could happen. Hopefully we can take on the three of 'em." The other two nodded slightly before grabbing their own weapons and checking their functionality before the three others would arrive upon them.

As they approach, you see there are 2 on each, and they bear the symbol of a newer faction, The Eyes of Horus. They stop when the see you, and a man steps off. "Ah. More people." He says, a hand hovering over a weapon, his revolver.
-
The Normaweight Commander flanked by his two Compact Weight comrades look at this new band of people, visibly tinted a shade of yellow in the headlights of their armor. The flares above still fizzle and spurt crimson light, however are fading into the darkness once again. The Commander has a bluish circle dotted with four bright white dots; the Stars insignia. He walks forward a step or two before speaking out of his suit, "What's 'our business bein' around 'ere?" The two flanking compact soldiers tighten their grip on some form of assault rifle.
-
"A criminal to The Eyes. We have reason to believe he's in there. We've followed him for 4 days now." He says, removing his hands from his guns. You notice that the legs of his suit have almost animal like attachments at the back. He walks up to one. "Jakob Ryder." He extends a hand
-
The Commanders Suit's "eyes" seem to narrow slightly before he cautiously and firmly sticks out an armored hand to awkwardly scrape your own with a clinking noise. The wind howls in the distant landscape as if laughing a silent tune. "Stars Red Dog Legion Commander Gregor Edison, Mr. Jakob." He says airily, breaking the contact. He then turns to look into the distant darkness to see the liquid outline of the skyscraper, hundreds of feet below was most likely a city street before the collapse. The other guard like soldiers flanking the commander stood firm watching Jakob and the other five soldiers; not letting their guard die away. "So yer tellin' me that 'ere in this potential Lancer nest is a loose felon?" Says Gregor skeptically.
-
"Yep. Gregory Williams. Convicted of 6 murders, and setting off a bomb to send 100's to their grave. Punishment: Death."
-
"Hmm... Then I assume it was yer people? The Stars 'ave not been attacked by a terrorist as o' sixteen years I proudly say!" Gregor kept looking around at the structure before bouncing on the balls of his feet. "Ye understand that man is, er-mos' likely dead?"
-
"The mad was last seen wearing a compact suit, an LMG and about 500 rounds of ammo. He had MREs and water. We need to make sure he's dead, and retrieve the supplies." He says
-
"A single man will not bode far inside that nest 'ere. You can command yerself ter find 'em but my men and I will have ter stay 'ere and keep safe."
-
"Alright." He says, and signals to his men to follow. They head in, Jakob bringing up the front, dual revolvers out.
-
The three Star soldiers watch your lights reflect on the twisted ice and fade as you descend into the roof level of the trapped skyscraper below the ice, pitch black save for the lights emitting off your suits. Upon reaching the second level below the roof you find the stairwell leading to the rest of the floors of the structure and deeper into the ice.
-
Jakob looks around, seeing large boot prints heading further into the ice, and signals for his team to follow
-
As you descend the massive stairwell of the office building you pass by frozen doors and walls all showing the signs of previous water leaks before their eventual freeze, the deeper you go the more cramped and claustrophobic the stairwell becomes before you and your men come to a large blockade; made up of thick frozen ice, chairs, desks, and debris.
-
He readies his rifle, looking around for a way around it
-
A door to the left seems to be frozen slightly open leading into the depths of what you assume is a large office room, your following band of five soldiers stacked and liked in the stairwell all slightly melting the ice around you with the radiation emitting from the suits. Suddenly an echoing groan, distant, but audible pierces your suits sensors. "The hell was that!" Whispered the fourth following soldier in your legion.
-
"Lancers." He says, the looks to them. "Eyes up, watch your back, and safety's off." He says, heading for the door, taking out his revolvers instead
-
The soldiers slightly glances at each other before following through the tight opening of the doorway, inside was an office space, mostly unharmed by the ice but frosted in many areas especially around the water cooler sitting int he far back; papers brittle from their time alone fell apart under your feet as you and your legion crept onward.

-
The five others make a sort of circle covering each other and watching the shadows; another four doors exit the room, two of which are open to the endless darkness beyond. Another low groan echoes throughout the floor and through the walls. "Sir, I don't think its on this floor; should we split up and search?"
-
"Alright. We take right. If target is seen, DO NOT ENGAGE! I'm the only one who as a rifle strong enough to damage his armour."
-
The other three nodded and moved left toward another opening in the wall crusted by frozen sheets, you could see their forms in the other rooms outlined by their helmet lights. The other two followed you closely looking around often in a paranoid state.
-
"Stay calm. He's probably weakened by Lancers by now. Shoot to kill."
-
One soldier whispered in a paranoid voice in a whisper scream like tone, "Sir, wouldn't you think he'd be dead by now if the Lancers got to him?! No one can stand alone against those things and hell no will I drive into a full nest when there could sure as hell be one!"
-
"Just remember. Don't let them get close and aim for the body."
