Why do people think it's ok to just sprint slide shotgun to get kills?
It's basically admitting you can't shoot, so how can people have such little honor that they stoop to playing with such pathetic tactics?
When I kill someone I want to know it was because I was better than him and I outshot him, not because I used a cheap tactic that they couldn't defend against.
Help me understand this strange breed of people with no shame and self respect!!

Because it works. Why do anything that isn't as effective.
-
Someone needs a nap!
-
You don't seem to play crucible much. If you know someone has a shotgun, don't charge them with a scout. Maybe, you could stay out of the 3 meter range of most shotguns?
-
I can't stand people who do that, but it is a tactic. Some people are gods at it and some suck, just like sniping. I suck at both, use my primary most of the time. You're just salty.
-
I agree, it's pretty lame.
-
1 ReplyYou ever try doing it. Fun as hell
-
2 RepliesOh man you would have loved blink shotgun era.
-
Maybe you're just bad. I do the occasional sprint shotgun melee but I also do the occasional NLB kill spree
-
Because it works. Back up, don't rush in like an idiot, and take out those shotgunners at range. They drop like flies.
-
If you kill someone with a shotgun you are better than them.... you have to have the game skill to see that there will be shotgunners in certain spots on a map and to avoid those areas and to engage from a distance... I've played on both sides of this example.
-
2 RepliesIt's a combat tactic, nothing more. It can be anticipated, and countered. What everyone is just supposed to line up and fire their guns at each other until one guy is left standing?
-
It's not as easy and cheap as you think. Yeah it's used a lot but it doesn't mean the player can't handle a gun fight. I usually run sniper and I recently tried the whole slide shotgun tactic and it takes skill to do. Players make it look easy but it's not always useful in larger more open maps because you can get gunned down before you get within shotgun range. You should try it out and see how it works for you.
-
You know what's real skill, running universal remote with a fusion rifle.
-
It's simple. You said you want to feel better than the person you defeated. And that guy that just defeated you with a shotgun? He's better than you and defeated you. That it. You even said you can't defend against it. That shows you're not skilled enough to even has a chance against him. I prefer fusion rifles. It's a great defense to shotgun slides. So when I kill someone while they try that, I know I was better.

Good shotgunning is just as skilful than over styles of play. And if you getting killed by it a lot then maybe you need to find better counters to it? The people that usually complain about it are the people that run into choke points and blame everything and everyone else for their bad decision making.
-
Honor??? It's a video game, relax.
-
Good shotgunning takes skill. Its not cheating but just another useful tactic.

36 RepliesEdited by Artimise Flare: 5/9/2016 12:06:13 AMHello, fellow sniper here. The first step is to admit you got outplayed. As a sniper, your greatest nemesis will almost always be those that rush or another sniper. The second is to stop subscribing to that mentality that "x does not require skill". I challenge you to try doing exactly what you think does not take skill for at least a day and see if you can make top of the score board consistently by charging in with wreckless abandon. I can almost assure you, it's not as mindless as you may think. How do I know this? Because I forced myself to play shotgun runner, I forced myself to learn how these types of people play. Believe you me, I SUCKED at it. You must plan your approach on the fly, have solid target acquisition and good reflexes. Positioning and knowing how to navigate the map is critical to your success. This will not only help you in your sniping techniques but will teach you about sniper lanes you may not have considered before as you hop from cover to cover to close the gap on an enemy player. As a sniper, I loved the satisfaction of getting that head shot, the feeling of making that precision kill on someone and knowing I shut them down before they could even get close enough to challenge me or out snipe me. It's a style that rewards knowing your choke points/sniper lanes and knowing how to situate yourself in such a way to maximize your advantage at said point. Shotgun running rewards a player in a similar manner, but rewards an aggressive style of play, pushing hard and fast while minimizing the time you're vulnerable as you close the gap on an enemy player. Knowing how to flee, and outsmart your opponent (baiting) and deft hand skills as you must be quick with both lining up your enemy in CQC and be twitchy on the trigger. To deny that either style of play requires little to no skill is disingenuous at best and outright ignorant at its worst. It's the refusal to acknowledge your own deficiencies, and if you refuse to find the flaws in your own defenses, how do you expect to find the flaws in anothers? Remember, that shotgun runner was at a disadvantage as he closed the gap on you, as a sniper, it's your responsibility to recognize this and move to a more advantageous position. Likewise it is the shotgun runners responsibility to limit your time on target as much as possible as he tries to get in close to pump you full of buckshot. The more skilled player will win. Be it the snap shot round to the shotgun users dome or overwhelming the sniper by sheer agility and show of force. Edit: I should add that there are quite a few hard counters to shotgun runners in CQC. Plan C is positively devastating if you master the timing. I've been shutdown numerous times by this weapon as I've tried to close the gap on enemy players who I mistakenly thought were defenseless in CQC. Side arms are also excellent at shutting down enemy shotgun runners. But most importantly, being mindful of your flanks, limiting as many enemy lines of sight on you as possible, and constantly staying on the move is imperative to being a good sniper, shotgun runner or just a solid PvP player overall. Use your vertical space, if you have a side arm, use this to your advantage. Jump up and away while firing down on them as they try to rush you. Prime the shotgun runner with a grenade either by damaging them directly or zoning them off with a trip mine, lightning or vortex/void fire grenade. You have so many tools at your disposal to counter a shotgun runner or a sniper, it's up to you to learn how to maximize the effectiveness of those tools at your disposal. I am NOT a pro at this game, I have many many flaws, but I am striving to improve upon my mistakes and inadequacy at certain things (gun skill and positioning being the big ones).

As somebody who has never used "kneepads" on a shotgun, I see it is a completely viable tactic. In the days when Felwinters lie ruled the crucible, this was possibly the only legitimate successful strategy to counter the felwinters sniper. I actually sometimes felt bad for my victims because sliding never really got them close enough anyway LOL
-
Getting a kill is getting a kill. Do what you gotta do to win. Adapt
-
I didn't realize being forced to close distances to get kills was a "cheap tactic". I also didn't realize that walking backwards and having map awareness didn't count as defenses against shotguns. What a world.
-
Look, I absolutely hate when I get killed by a shotgun, whether they slide, blink, or just shoot me from behind. But the reason people do it is because it works. There is no "honor" in the Crucible, no special rules they need to follow. If it works, people do it.
-
Almost impossible to counter in confined areas but out in the open, (depending on your primary) just walk backwards and shoot from the hip.
-
I rarely do that. I'm a shotgunner and the amount of people who literally run into my shotgun is hilarious. I pity them.
-
One word... Sidearm

Whats with all these post bitching about how people kill each other. He does this. He uses that. Blah blah blah. Lmao lets all just stand still and take turns shooting each other one bullet at a time and right when one person is going to die let them regen. Shut up about how people play or what they use. It's part of the game. Don't bitch about it.
