Unfortunately, voting third party is exactly the same as not voting at all.
As far as the presidency goes at least. It can potentially help the third party candidate down the road.

Because of the electrical college, a third party candidate has virtually no chance of winning a single representative let alone the general election. But if a third party candidate can get enough of the popular vote it shows that they may be a viable candidate later.
