I have news for you Weebs out there.

The katana is nothing more than a sharpened metal bar and by no means compares to European sword design. There I said it.

    • Katanas are faster and lighter. They penetrate better by stabbing and slashing, they're more ornate, more accurate and are stronger.

European great swords are meant for slashing, for example. Breaking defenses, thats why a swordman is usually in possession of a shield. Daisho are meant for stabbing. Katana are incredibly light and easy to handle, which makes fights between users faster than european counter part sword fights. I myself own a daisho set and i can honestly say that the katana and the european sword are too different from eachother to say one is better. Disclaimer : i am not a weeb, my grandfather was a sensei in the art of kendo and kobudo, i have been practicing these arts since i was 6 years old.

      • The katana is a great sword. Until you add armor into the mix. It's biggest strength is its slashing power, which you do not want to do against armor. European chain mail is good enough to stop an average swing and plate armor will always stop a slash, 100% of the time. And it doesn't have enough weight to do much blunt damage

        • Well it is a sword, just not as powerful as the European ones, like basic armour can stop a katana. Conclusion: a katana is a highly overrated sword.

You realize that different swords were made for different things right? You don't even have to understand Japanese culture to understand the use and role that a Katana played. You just have to not be a retard. Which is unfortunately not a requirement you meet. Obviously.
And don't you ever bad mouth Cory in the House you swine. That's the greatest piece of art ever created. Best animu 8/8 m8.
• The Katana is the perfect sword for the way it was used... The same goes for Arming Swords, Side Swords, Rapiers, Back Swords, and Sabres...

                    • As someone who trained Haidong Gumdo (Korean Kendo) for three years now. I agree. It is inferior to european swords! And I am an anime fan but god -blam!-ing damnit do I hate people who praise a sword, which good aspects are the leight weight for it's lenght, without any knowledge! Katanas were good enough to be used against japanese/korean armory. However in comparison to European armory and weapons it fails. It is fun to learn the different styles however lol

Japanese steel is a damn fine metal. As is Damascus steel. European steel is alright. I'll keep my club though, all the same.

I beg to differ. They're works of art. True Japanese katanas are beautiful. The is light for quick movements, and the blade is curved for a slicing action on every strike. Japanese steel is the best in the world. Finally, katanas are made for stealth attacks. Oh, I don't mean the eBay katanas. I mean the katanas made in Japan in batches of 100 or less. They start at about $4,000 dollars.
I'm not a weeaboo
