Light lvl doesn't mean much in regular crucible. When ever I make a new character I get phantoms and I do better then my team 8 out of 10 games. How ever your light lvl does matter in trials to a point. If your below 310 in trials a 335 will usually be able to one shot body shot with a sniper and so on
That's why I was saying that, people pick what gear gives them the best stat rolls for pvp which normally bring your light down because light doesn't matter.
I was just confused as to why they cared about light.
It depends if there is the level advantage thing on. Most game modes it's not. It always annoys me when people Msg me for trials saying their light lvl. As a 305 I can still carry a team. Even though I will get one shotted by grenades and snipers
I'm guessing people assume a higher light means a more experienced guardian. However I recently transitioned from PS4 to XB1 where I had a 332 Hunter and Warlock (scrapped a Titan) and now my light on XB1 is 313 at most but I'd say I can handle my own in the crucible so I guess it just makes them rather stupid to ask for light. Especially when it doesn't affect performance (as you said).
