*slow clap*
Faith, there is, faith. Video game movies do have a chance for once.
If you're not already aware of the trope, movies based off games are usually 12% market bait and 88% shit. Tbh, the last decent movie that came from a game IMO was Prince of Persia, and that isn't anywhere near my top 20 list. However, Ratchet & Clank turned out great for a video game movie.
The only downside is that it's more fanservice than standalone film. If you've ever played any of the games, you need to see it. The movie incorporates tons of Easter eggs throughout and provides the quirky humor you'd expect from one of the games.
Yet, if you've never touched a Ratchet & Clank game in your life, you may want to go with someone who has or else you won't be able to appreciate it as much. The ball may take a while to get rolling but it'll take a couple weeks of thinking before my nostalgia goggles fall off. That post-movie excitement takes a while to wear off y'know? Besides that it seemed as if the violence was toned down a bit in comparison to the games.
All in all I give it a 8/10 as of now, since my friend and I had a great time with the film and unlike most movies I go to see in theaters, I wouldn't mind watching it again.
