Nova bomb is the same... just point in the general direction and let it fly.

Im the kind of person who likes close range and blink so if I use nova bombs, its typically straight at the floor and 2 -3 enemies next to me. Kind of like a titan smash but you can determine the range of it.

I'm pretty sure FoH has a larger kill radius than Nova (especially vertically), but I'd say it's a fair tradeoff for the range Bombs get. Especially with Lance and Angry Magic.
