Interesting fact... According to our constitution, the United States is actually a union of 50 countries United under one common government. It's something similar to the EU...only it actually works.

In this case, the term state is used to define a province, but the term state can actually be used to define a country itself. If you find interest in any of this stuff, I recommend you take a human geography class or just google something like "state vs. nation vs. nation-state"

Because we are the United States of America... Modern society views the US as a single country because after the Civil War States Rights were pretty much abolished. However, constitutionally, we are still 50 nations United under one common bannor.
