Tell kids to laugh at the bully's futile attempts to insult them as I learned to.
Honestly it became a bit of a game to come up with counter-insults that they wouldn't even understand.

[i] *puts on an antic disposition* [/i] Obviously the method I developed won't work for every kid, so there is a degree of them still having to develop their own method.[spoiler]Also the kids that bullied me could have easily beat the shit out of me.[/spoiler] And of course mentally challenged kids are different. Many of them don't have the ability to just laugh it off like others.

Exactly, just things like that, strategies to defend yourself and your emotions. Takes a while to learn yourself, it would be awesome if schools helped.
