DOOM doesn't really go into detail with its story. But I'll summarize it for you:
"Oh no, demons from hell are invading Mars/Earth, let's send in our best marine to kick ass".
Also DOOM 3 is practically nothing like DOOM 1 or 2 so pay no attention to it.
