I guess there's no way to disprove this claim, It's an interesting thought, and an altogether terrifying one. The thought that at any moment the simulation could be drastically changed or even shut down is a terrifying one.
Much like the multiverse theory, this one seems appealing at first glance but once you dig deeper you see how truly terrifying it is.

Ah, but if it is shut down, we don't remember anything, do we? Hence, no regret.

the multi-verse theory is a sort of grey area for me in theory its a 50% split of infinite universes which technically isn't possible but anyway 50% of the infinite universes are good 50% are bad the decision of whether the multiverse theory is good or bad is all about which half you believe your universe to be in but the way i like to think about it is this: this universe sucks because in theory there is a universe where i have a pet dragon and it pisses me off that other me has a pet dragon and current me doesn't

To qoute Lawrence Krauss, Even if we are a simulation, if said simulation is good enough to be indestinguishable from reality, then what's the difference? Paraphrased, but pretty much what he said.

Edited by Gr8er than u m8: 3/23/2016 3:53:28 AMI agree. But who knows? "Real life" could be 100x more "realistic" than our world! Assuming, say, Destiny characters achieved sentience, but thought their world was "real," and were shown our world, they would be like, "Woah, so much more realistic!"
-
The difference is that if we are in a simulation it means out universe is unstable, and that it could be shut off or drastically changed at any second.

But does it matter if we wouldn't remember anything afterwards? And if we wouldn't remember anything, we would not be thinking right now. A dream you don't remember essentially didn't happen for you. If you die before you are self-aware(i.e. 3 months old) you may as well never have existed(to yourself), as you would never remember anything that you experienced, and wouldn't have ever consciously felt anything.

Edited by LauKensai: 3/22/2016 7:40:50 AMBut even were that the case our present reality would be unchanged. We wouldn't even realize it happened. Hell, the program could have just started running as you read THIS. But with all your memories intact would you be able to tell the difference?
-
But we know it never ENDS the simulation, as by the same logic, we wouldn't remember this, and if you don't remember something, in your mind, it never happened, so as I am typing this, that may as well never have happened. The fact we have EVER been conscious shows the simulation will never shut down, or this is just reality.

Essentially this.

Yeah.
