Do the fist of Crota over and over again to get the husk of the pit to drop. It took my friend 10 times to get it to drop.

Your friend was lucky! Some of my buddies have been trying on and off for a few months. I think someone worked out the average is around 30 attempts - so you should expect to have to kill the Blade of Crota in the Fist of Crota mission 30+ times to get the Husk.
