Unfortunately I live in Mississippi. I sure as -blam!- don't belong here or in the south though. It's amazing to me how violent people get about abortion here. The one clinic here always has protesters outside, gets bomb and death threats daily, and the workers get harassed and dox'd constantly. It's pitiful. Until the baby becomes viable it's no more than a mere parasite. Before you take offence, consider the word parasite.
par·a·site ˈperəˌsīt/ noun an organism that lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense.
That's damn near exactly what a baby does. Should abortion be legal? Yes, in any and all circumstance. If you're against abortion, you're against women's rights. It's not your body, it's not your choice.

  • "Parasitism, relationship between two species of plants or animals in which one benefits at the expense of the other, sometimes without killing the host organism." http://www.britannica.com/science/parasitism As much as I agree that a woman has her rights and her choice, calling a fetus a parasite to argue your point just seems like a pointless insult to those with a different view

  • I didn't use it as an insult thrown in there for no point.

This definition of parasite applies 30 seconds before the baby is born, notwithstanding your caveat about "until the baby becomes viable." The problem with the viability caveat is that as medical science improves, viability increasingly intersects the point of conception. The Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision points this out, leaving the door open for revisiting the abortion issue as medical science improves. It's obviously very controversial, but viability is simply based on medical advancement and is subject to change. It seems from my experience that people have to figure out for themselves when the fetus becomes a person. Along these lines, because pro choice is so strong politically, there are states where killing a fetus in a woman's womb (via some act of violence) is not considered murder, and a pregnant woman is able to use drugs resulting in a disabled birth without legal recourse to stop her until the baby is born simply because the pro choice faction is terrified to concede that an unborn child is a person in any context. To me, this kind of consequence that falls out of pro choice is what's crazy. My two cents.

  •
Me? It's hard to tell through the app which thread you're replying to sometimes
Yes lol as long as you're the guy defending pro choice views. I'm very pro choice so I appreciate seeing somebody else defend it especially when it's done this well.

  • People will look at things differently, I personally don't see a fetus as a parasite, but I could see why others do. What I don't understand is if someone has such disdain towards something, then why not take proper care of themselves? We all know what having intercourse leads to, that's why birth control was made. I don't understand how someone could not take proper care of themselves to ensure that they don't end up with a "parasite." And before anyone comes in what the stupid comment, I'm clearly not talking about r@pe case, I'm talking about consensual sex.

  • Simply because accidents happen. Condom breaks, you forget to take your pill or you're too busy or whatever. Accidents happen. Unwanted pregnancy is almost never intentional. It comes from accidents or ignorance

  • No, that's not an accident. There's more than enough methods out there to ensure it doesn't happen. Simply using a condom is pretty stupid, especially if you don't want a kid. Most doctors recommend using multiple method & that reduces the chances of pregnancy to almost 0%. The other method is to get there tubes tied, clearly if they see kids as parasites this won't be a problem. I'm pro-choice, but I think it's funny when people try to say "accidents happen." I don't think there would be need for abortion if people were more responsible. I'm thankful for the option though, children shouldn't have to suffer a life with a horrible parent.

  • One can make that same argument with regards to those who receive government aid. They are a parasite on society and drain its resources. They survive by feeding off the rest of the population. Are we justified in killing them?

No I'm not. I looked at the definition that you posted and people on government aid meet that definition exactly.

  • *puts on an antic disposition* The government is not an organism. Therefore your definition is figurative, not literal.
