So how would this help me get to max light level? Slay a few bullet sponges alongside a few competent players and score some 320 items?
Pretty simple.
And therein lies your problem.
Why should I go insane with bad RNG in the raid or badly balanced PvP when I can fly to a planet and kill stuff?
You'd have to put in the same bad reward system in this event in order to prevent it from trivializing the other methods of getting 320, or make it like Crimson Days where everyone who participates gets a free sympathy prize handed to them because the system sucks so much.
It just sounds mostly self-defeating when you factor in how endgame loot works in Destiny.
You should consider some more advanced game mechanics for these PvE encounters in order to better justify handing out desireable endgame prizes.
So how would this help me get to max light level? Slay a few bullet sponges alongside a few competent players and score some 320 items?
It is a PvE event. You'll notice I didn't mention receiving 320 rewards. The challenge? Is doing the raids, getting the challenge guaranteed drops. Then going and fighting a final boss off of mercury (the example) to get rewards. The issue right now you seem to think about is dealing with bosses. As you say, damage sponges. Bosses are about mechanics. You know.... like making the VoG Templar from not teleporting and killing it? It was possible as a challenge, but not all groups could do it. The same could be implemented here with the emphasis on teamwork. Not necessarily difficulty.

Edited by Swiftlock: 2/24/2016 7:06:19 AMSo you need some extremely sophisticated bosses with very advanced game mechanics that demand huge amounts of teamwork. That's all you had to say. But... if they don't award proper endgame gear, then what's the point of playing it more than once or twice? SRL, Trials, and Crimson Days all had 320 gear in some form. Why not this? Again, it just sounds self-defeating. I'd just do the Challenge Mode and leave it at that if whatever follows isn't going to be as helpful.

Edited by Swiftlock: 2/24/2016 7:08:31 AMDoesn't sound like it'd be worthy of endgame gear when the only other method is PvP/bad raid RNG.

That's the purpose of EVENTS. One week, singular reward, build up to the next event. There's a lot of ways to hold events and each of them is about building towards the next with rewards which keep pushing the envelope.

Edited by Swiftlock: 2/24/2016 7:21:04 AMYeah. Crimson Days, SRL, and Trials all potentially hand out 320 gear. Why not this one? You'd have to at least hand out something juicy like a 320 class item, weapon, or chest piece.
