3 Made me chuckle, The latest Fire emblem games have been easy compared to older titles.
And I'm not even talking about the difficulty options.

Key word there is "compared". Dark Souls is easy when you compare it to Battletoads. Does that mean Dark Souls isn't tough? Eh, no.
-
Still trivialised through the difficulty options of both casual and phoenix.

Those "difficulties" essentially boil down to "Do you want permadeath or not? Okay, you don't, so do you want teammates to be revived after a fight or after every turn?" Wow, what an absolutely game-changing difficulty choice...
-
Well actually it's pretty significant. "Fly my minions, know that you can never truly die."

Okay, so if Phoenix mode really does make it that easy, then you have the problem of boredom due to lack of challenge. When I played MGS3 on easy, the infinite ammo tranq gun with literal laser accuracy that makes it harder to see you made the game boring, and I'm sure your units resurrecting every turn would do the same. I hate those "get out of jail free" difficulties, so there's no way I'd pick that. And because of that, the difficulty options left are the one with permadeath and the one without permadeath.
