What i love is the fact that the Pope attacked him recently over building walls. And yet the walls are massive around the Vatican and many cant just walk in anywhere. Way to be open to all Pope. Also why is it ok for every single other country to implement strict immigration policies but not the US? How many minorities are in China and Japan? An extremely small amount. Why is India not considered racist for their strict northern border security? Sure they have a harsh history with Pakistan but that shouldn't matter right? I mean isn't it anti muslim not to want pakistanis' in your country? Why isn't Turkey considered Islamaphobic for shutting down many of the Syrian refugees? Its every nations sovereign right to control their territories and set up their own immigration policies, except for the United States because.... racism? Bigotry? We aren't considered a nation?

 • But the Great Wall was built hundreds of years ago and I'm pretty sure it was to keep out invaders.
Also why is it ok for every single other country to implement strict immigration policies but not the US?
Who said it was ok? Charity begins at home. You will most likely find plenty of people within those countries arguing for a more open door immigration policy - would you honestly expect them to suddenly care about the affairs of another country halfway round the world before their own?

 • Charity begins at home is hardly an answer to the immigration problem. Large amounts of illegal aliens are harmful to any nation. The Statue of Liberty doesn't make immigration policy and a poem isn't good policy.

 • True but he isnt tearing them down or changing the immigration and entrance policies in the vatican. At least he has made no attempt thus far.

 • Because it keeps people out. Thats the argument. Trump cant build a wall or create immigration laws because its "racist" but the vatican can have strict immigration policies and keep its walled city just because its historical?

 • This is from a Washington Times article its lengthy so this is the excerpt to pay attention to, i will link the full article below : "The Vatican, for its part, welcomes millions of visitors a year — but allows only a very select few, who meet strict criteria, to be admitted as residents or citizens. Only about 450 of its 800 or so residents actually hold citizenship, according to a 2012 study by the Library of Congress. That study said citizens are either church cardinals who reside in the Vatican, the Holy See’s diplomats around the world, and those who have to reside in the city because of their jobs, such as the Swiss Guard. Spouses and children who live in the city because of their relationship with citizens — including the Swiss Guard and workers such as the gardener — have also been granted citizenship. But that means few of the Vatican’s citizens are women. A Vatican spokesman did not return an email seeking comment on its policy. The strict policy has left the Vatican open to criticism in the past, including from right-wing political leaders in Italy who want tighter immigration controls in their country and have rebuffed the papacy’s calls for leniency by asking how many refugees live in the enclave." The "strict criteria" includes things like being a catholic, being related or needed in the catholic church, and is mostly men as the article states. At the very end it discusses the Pope's pledge to take more in but the first family they let in recently were Greek catholics. Now Trump is considered "racist" (muslims are not a race) for wanting a temporary ban on Muslim immigration yet the pope is not when 95+% of his state's residents are Catholic and one of the requirements to enter is to be Catholic? Its hypocrisy at the highest stage. Yes its small scale but it is a state and no Syrian refugees have been welcomed in that i have seen. Here is the full article its a decent read. http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/sep/24/pope-call-immigration-unlikely-change-debate/?page=all

 • You're literally a moron. The Vatican is not a Country in the normal sense of the word. Let me ask you this, what is the point of letting non-Catholic, excess amounts of people who have no reason for being in and nothing to do in the Vatican? What purpose do they serve there?

 • It is a country. It is a sovereign state. It doesnt matter if its small or not. Switzerland is small does that mean it doesnt count as a nation either? The Pope is preaching to take in everyone, to tear down the walls along borders because they divide yet in his own home you have to believe what he believes to enter. If he is going to criticize others for doing exactly what he is doing then he is dead wrong.

 • Well, the Vatican is tiny and has very little ways to support itself. There is really no jobs there aside from the church.

 • Doesnt matter if its small or not. He is criticizing the very policies that he has implemented in his own state. Thats the issue here its hypocrisy.

 • It's not really fair, though. The Pope is constantly under threat from assassination. It'd be like invited strangers into the White House. Vatican City is tightly controlled, in large part, to keep the Pope and Catholic leadership safe.

 • That same argument can be used for any border programs or security. How many criminals come across the borders that are connected to cartels? If even one ISIS militant gets in with the refugees isnt that a great threat? There is an thought experiment to explain this. You have a jar of 100 skittles. 5 are poisoned. Will you eat a skittle? If you eat one and are fine would you eat another? Most say no at the first stage and those who say yes in the first stage usually say no after taking the risk once. In other words if you cannot identify a potentially fatal risk aka which skittles are poisoned then why chance the risk in the first place? The Pope cannot tell who his enemies are so he has to use security universally and discriminate against all because its not so simple to say who will harm you and who will not. Why should America operate any differently? We know criminals travel back and forth between the border, we know they bring drugs and crime into our cities because of our lax policies so why not try to prevent that rather than opening it up completely and eating all the skittles? Do you see what i'm getting at here? The Pope does what any sane leader of a nation would do and thats protect his people from outside interference and threats yet America is "racist" for trying to protect its borders and eliminate the chance for those threats to get in. Its not like we will stop all immigration, no one is calling for that. But we dont want people to be able to waltz right in just like the Pope does not want someone to walk right into his bedroom or home with no screening and no protection. Yet he calls for just that for America while keeping strict border programs in place for his home state.

 • I love how that's the one thing you know about the current Pope. You're an idiot. It's not like the pope went and walled himself off in that Vatican. Those buildings are hundreds of years old and have great historical value. If anything Pope Francis is an example of what we should all strive to be. How about you learn a little bit about people before you try and bash them.

 • Why do you assume i know only one thing of the pope? I used that current example to make a point about hypocrisy. You should not assume anything because you know what they say when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me. Lol. And just because something has historical value doesnt mean it should be cherished forever. If that was the case the many guillotines that were used back in the medieval times should have stayed there then right? The Vatican had them so they should be kept there in the public squares right? And if historical value takes precedent then shouldnt a wall be acceptable considering the current border has existed for decades? I didnt know you could have border security and not be considered "racist" so long as it has been there long enough.

 • Yes? Idk if you are stating obvious things or not but of course there wouldnt be one inside there they were outside in the public squares. Also how is the chapel equivalent to the "historical walls" that you originally talked about that made it ok to have strict border security?

 • My point was you were comparing the Vatican to a wall for the sole purpose of keeping people out. The Vatican was built during a time where walls were needed to defend from attackers. They weren't built to keep common people out they were built to defend themselves. If you're going to bemoan about the vatican, then why aren't you doing it about every castle, keep, palace, or holy place that was built during the same period, because I assure they all have walls. They needed them to keep them from getting raided every other day.

 • I bemoan the Vatican because its castle just happens to be a sovereign state and he is the leader of the catholic faith. His words have presence and him pointing fingers at others for doing exactly what he is doing as the head of a nation is hypocrisy. Its a do as i say and not as i do situation.
