I personally think SBMM blows. I got stomped when I first entered PvP but enjoyed enough about it to stay and get better. I didn't need my hand held and be thrown into matches with "like" people so my feelings didn't get hurt. Not trying to be mean, just stating how I see it.
I just can't see the attraction to SBMM... Group me in a match with 5 or 11 other clones of myself that you have to grab from 2k miles away (I live in NY and can't fathom why I get matches in Mexico), mix in lags upwards of 600ms, then "have fun"? The connections you get are essentially a roll of the dice.

The attraction is you get a balanced and competitive game you have a chance of doing well in and even winning without the other players either stomping all over you or being carried with someone way out ahead on your team. I think SBMM is great, fun games, never any lag. Keep it and apply it to every PvP mode.

Edited by ElBambino: 2/19/2016 12:32:56 AMSorry, but I'm not seeing it from my end. Getting put up against players with a better k/d made me play better and most of all the matches I played from start were pretty good, barring the occasional lopsided blowout. Even the top player wasn't walking out with 30-35 kills, now that's common since then. I'll see one team with all sub 0. K/d and the other team is running with obviously the opposite. Matches that are actually fairly close victory have you then guaranteed an automatic loss the next match. Lastly, I've found more 2nd matches that start off with it being lopsided at 6 x 3 or 5 x 3 and no-one new joins and people quit off your team, the one thats obviously losing so you're even more in a hole. That's not a match...that's a slaughterfest. Previously finding new people to join never seemed to be that big of an issue.

Edited by Calculus-Entropy: 2/17/2016 7:46:42 PMThis is coming from a zero medal score, 260 Grim score, one character Hunter at 7? Or did I look up the wrong name? Yes- the ideas behind SBMM sound promising, but if you ran more than one match with it you'd find out its trash. I love playing players of all skill and not playing against lag. Nobody held my hand to ensure my games were fair.
Not knocking your opinion, just clarifying my post.
Edit: SBMM IS the cause of the lag. Connection based matchmaking matches me up against great connections in my area. SBMM matches me with "similar" stat people across the country dragging in huge amounts of lag to supposedly make things "fair" to everyone.

Let's think A) a major problem with Destiny not recording scores, affecting millions of players and nobody noticed. B) Knowing that Destiny is available on multiple consoles made by two manufacturers you decided to stop your research on me after finding the first answer. I know which one I would put my money on and at the very least put in doubt any point you make if your research stops after you find the first thing you are looking for and you are too lazy to continue.

What's the point of matching skill when the lag essentially makes it irrelevant? Your point might hold water if the footing were equal. It isn't.
-
Exactly. Playing people of all skill beats playing against a roll of the dice with lag.

Lag is a seperate issue and not caused by SBMM it might effect the games (I have no personal experience of this) but it's not actually caused by it. There are too many things out if Bungie control, it's not there fault that people are on wifi or sharing with others or live somewhere with a high contention on there connection.
-
No. Lag is not a separate issue if they're matching based on skill agnostic to location. Haha, and no one said it was caused by SBMM. Skill simply ceases to be a factor in so-called skill based match making if lag is a predominant factor in the games played. I live in DC. If I play with someone from the United Kingdom, chances are really, really high it's going to be a shitty connection. Not because our individual internet connections are shit, but because of the distance and the fact that there are no dedicated servers.

Edited by montythedeadgoat: 2/17/2016 7:47:13 PMI played Crimson Doubles last weekend with someone in the US (I am in the uk) saw a couple of red bars at the most during all the games and lag was never an issue. As far as I can remenber, if I select the Asian servers in Titanfall that reports a ping of below 150ms which is the maximum value on the Xbox support pages it says you need for online games. Like anything, Bungie need to draw a line and say this is the spec and performance we are aiming for. It will effect some people more than others but in business terms what's better. Keep the 10% elite happy and 90% normal players unhappy or make the 10% elite unhappy (where the majority will be hardcore fanboys who will buy the next game and all the emote anyway just not to feel left out) and keep the 90% potential customers happy so they buy Destiny 2 People keep saying about how CoD removed SBMM after a day but that gave relies on microtransactions. Bungie already have your money, they are trying to Pre-sell the next DLC or Destiny 2 by showing that no matter what your skill you will have an enjoyable experience even if you are joining the game in year 3. Money is the reason SBMM will stay in some form.

Crimson doubles was connection based match making not sbmm. In y1 pvp was connection based, how much lag was there....next to none. Y2 introduced sbmm and lag dominates the crucible. I'm a decent at best crucible player but sbmm changed the dynamic of the game. I started with a horrible PvP rating and got paired up with ppl like that but as time went on I was consistently on top of the score board with subpar players my PvP rating went up and got put in the lvl of the tryhards and that is no fun having a sweaty match every normal PvP match and not alone were there too many better players than I but also lag beyond belief. I am an average player cbmm doesn't favor just the top 10%, I would much rather have a match made with no lag where I could actually play. Yes there can be that leet player in your game but friend or foe, that player is not going to win or lose by himself in a team mode. Besides who wants to be just mediocre. I have had more fun thru cbmm than sbmm.
